We do not necessarily share the op inion expressed herein.—Ed.) Mr. Editor: The above is the titke of a little book by Angus H. McGregor of Miami, which every Methodist should read. Perhaps the question should be changed to read: “Have The Methodist Bish ops Gone . Mad?” What took place at Jun&luska in June, and at the South Carolina Methodist conference at ETorence, August 26th, w&s mo doubt part of a long-planned program, and just another small wedge driven into the foundations of our South ern Social System. We recall that on November 21st last, as report ed by AP, the Methodist Council of Bishops who met In Chicago, decided that the Methodist church would lead the fight' against Seg regation of the races, and ad dressed their message to the nine million members of the church. The Bishops who directed pro ceedings at Florence, knew well the stand the State of South Car olina has taken an SEGREGA TION. Considering this, how can their action, be considered any thing but a deliberate affront to our State government atnd State officials, elected by the people, and a deliberate affront to every South Carolinian who supports his State government? The booklet 'above referred to speaks of “the 39 active Bishops of the Methodist church.” Will NINE MILLION members of this church meekly accept '"rfcle by executive decree” by 39.. Bishops? Please allow me to quote a few passages from OFFICIAL Metho dist PUBLICATIONS: From the “Adult Student’’: “An increasing number of informed observers is convinced that it is now impossi ble , , , to' .retain permanently what is left of Capitalism—the man of faith will be concerned with creating an economic order In which ALL MAY SHARE} IN THE GOODS WHICH ALL WORK TO PRODUCE”. What is needed is a world order based on world law enacted by world government. Affiliate yourselves with one of the groups active in behalf of WORLD GOVEJRNMENT.* And here is a statement from “The Invincible Advance” publish ed by the Methodist Board of Missions: “The whole earth has 'THE THING". . . U.. It is one great din ing room in which all races BAT FROM THE SAME TABLE. It is a bank where all savings are pool ed in pne common wealth.” Quoting from a coyer page of the Christian • Advocate is. the statementvthat the aim of the. soc ial gospel is the task of. making a new world, of creating through whatever struggle might be re quired; most just controls of soc ial power.” The booklet referred to quotes a Methodist minister as follows: “Church Loyalty insures the success of the LIBERAL move ment; you could perhaps convince many of our people that we are leading in the WTtbNG direction; they will hope and prapr that we WILL CHANGE, hut they Will not DESERT US, even if we don’t They are like Southern Demo crats who are ever threatening to leave the party, if R does not re turn to Jeffersonian democracy, BUT THEY NEVER DO IT.” We question that last state- memt. The Bishope with their great power, might well recall the WRITE-IN vote that put Senator Thurmond in Congress. Sarah S.
