mountains of North Carolina and
Virginia, touring the Skyline drive

to leave again on October 3 for
a four month’s tour of Europe,
the near east, South Africa, and
the Holy Land.
MRS. JESSE MAYEfe left Wed
nesday for Winston-Salem, N. C.,-

Mrs. Caroline Lawrence. They will
leave for Washingtop on July 15
and by boat from Washington for
a trip to Bermuda, Nassua and to
Havana, Cuba.

spent the weekend with Mrs. Mc-
Caskill’s mother, Mrs. Bothwell
Graham bn Calhoun street. Mr.
McCaskill returned to Conway
Sunday afternoon and Mrs. Mc
Caskill and children will remain
for a two week’s visit.
MR. AND MRS. LEO HAWLEY
of Kansas City, Mo., spent several
days during the Fourth of July
holidays in the home of Mrs.
Hawley’s nephew, Fill Bowler and
Mrs. Bowler on Glenn street. The
Hawleys and Bowlers spent Mon
day, July Fourth, in Columbia, in
the home of Mrs. Bowler’s cous
ins, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W.
Long.
MRS. GEORGE SENN will re
turn to Blacksburg, Va. this week
end after spending three weeks
in the State. While here she visit
ed her son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and, Mrs. Tyrus Senn and
son, Sedley, in the Smyrna com
munity^ her sisters, Mrs. J. T.
Pitts on James street and Mrs. J.
E. Floyd on Harrington street.
She also visited her other twp
sons, Prof, and Mrs. T. L. Senn
and family at Clemson college and
Mr. and Mrs. James Senn and
family in Seneca.
MR. AND MRS. W. H. SLIGH,
and daughter. Miss Lilia Sligh and
Misa Miriam Meadows of Birm
ingham, Alabama, visited Mrs.
Floyd Bradley on Calhoun street
and Mrs. R. C. Neel of Silver-
street last week. Mrs. Sligh is the
former Helen Smith, daughter of
Dr. Van Smith, who lived in New
berry for many years. Mr. and
Mrs. Sligh will take a trip thru
the Smokies before returning to
Birmingham. Misses Sligh and
Meadows • went on to Washington
where Miss Sligh has a position
with the Intelligence department.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith spent
the first four days of this week
on a vacation at Edisto Beach.

Youth Succumbs At
Prosperity Clinic
Leland Ross George, Jr., 16.
died Wednesday morning at the
Mills clinic. Prosperity, following
an illness of seven months.
A son of L R and Mrs. Frances
Ruff George, he was born and
reared near. Prosperity. He had
completed the 10th grade at the
Prpsperity High Shool where he
participated in football, basket
ball and baseball. He was a mem
ber of the Block “P” club, FFA,
FTA, and the Beta club and was
a Star scout of Troop 164, BSA
He was a member of Holy Trinity
Lutheran church, Little Mountain
and a member of the Luther lea
gue.
Surviving besides his parents
are one brother, Billy George of
Prosperity; one sister Miss Dor
othy Nell George, Columbia and
Prosperity, and his grandfathers,
J. W. George, Prosperity and Cald
well Ruff, Joanna.
Funeral servicea were conduct
ed Thursday afternoon at 4 p. m.
at Holy Trinity by Rev. G. , L.
Hill and Rev. Grady Cooper. Bur
ial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Boozer Rites
Held On Saturday
Miss Annie Ruth Boozer died
Friday morning at the home of
her niece, Mrs. William Senn af
ter a lingering illness. She was
58 years of age.
Miss Boozer was born in Pros
perity a daughter of the late T.
J. and Elizabeth Lester Boozer.
She was a member of SL Luke’s
Lutheran church.
Surviving are three sisters, Mrs.
Rosa Lester, Mrs. J. R. Beden-
baugh, and Miss Nellie Boozer,
all of Prosperity, and a number
of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conduct
ed Saturday afternoon from the
Whitaker Funeral home / by Dr.
Thomas F. Suber. Burial followed
in St. Luke’s cemetery.
