Carolina. After completing his
first two years at the University
Jim served two years in the U.
S. Air Force, then returned to
Carolina to complete the require
ments for his degree. Mrs. Sum
mer, who will be remembered by
many Newberrians, is Home Dem
onstration Agent for Richland
county, and Mrs. Summer’s daugh
ter, Mrs. Margie Faulkner, holds
a similar position in Edgefield
county.

Bride At Community
A lovely reception was given
last Wednesday afternoon be
tween the hours of four and six
o’clock p.m. at the Community
Hall by Mrs. James E. Wiseman,
Sr., honoring Mrs. James E.
Wiseman, junior, the former Sally
Ruff of Columbia, whose marriage
to Mr. Wiseman took place in
Columbia June 4th.
The Community Hall was beau
tifully decorated for the occasion
with garlands of Southern smilax
and palms. Roses and gladioli in
varying hues were used about the
room In attractive arrangement.

with speech and hearing defects,
and their mothers—will attend
one of four one-wdOk institutes at
the Opportunity School to be
conducted by the Hard of Hearing
and Speech Correction program of
the State Department of Educa
tion St the Opportunity school be
ginning June 20.
Reservations for the residence-
type one-week courses were still
being received this week. Already
children and parents are register
ed from Charleston and Spartan
burg and many intermediate
points.
Each week of the institute will
be devoted to a special problem:
June 20*24, ^articulation; June
27-Julyl, stuttering; July 4-8,
cleft palate; July 11-15, hard of
hearing and miscellaneous.
The institute is unique in that
it will bring together parents and
children with similar problems
for a week of instruction while
befog cloeely associated in the
campus atmosphere of the, Oppor
tunity school.
Parents will learn how they
may help their children with their
speech and hearing problems, and
will be able to discuss
measures with other parents
like circumstances.
