Actor Pays Visit
To Boyhood School
Miss Betty Jo Counts of New
berry, a fifth grade teacher in
Massle Elementary School, Sa
vannah, Ga., states that the stu
dents were surprised and delight
ed recently when Charles Coburn,
famous actor, came to see them
and spent an hour aud a half vis-.
Iting in the school where he once
was a student
His visit was covered by news
papers and TV.
Mr. Coburn holds the scenes of
Savannah, as he knew them as a
boy and young man, in affection
ate regard, and one of the places
he wanted to be sure to visit was
Massie School.

Scouts Take Part
In GOC Operation
The Newberry Ground Observer
corps reports that “Sky Train
IV” was a success. The Air De
fense Training Exercise was held
June 4, Saturday, from 9 a.m. to
9 p.m. Several of toe regular
members did not attend, so some
of the Boy Scouts served extra
time in order to fill toe gaps. As
a reward for their extra service,
two of the Scouts were flown to
the Breakfast Club meeting Sun
day morning at Camden. The

Friday morning. Prior to this Club
Achievement Programs* had been
held in May in the 13 girls 4-H
clubs with 932 exhibits being put
up by f-H members. . ,

votions after which a demonstra
tion was given on toe use of elec
tricity in the home by Mr. Ringer
of the Newberry electric coopera
tive. During the demonstration, he
showed how to make an extension
cord and gave some safety meas
ures on using dectricity.
Returning to the Agriculture
building the group, saw. Anita Kil-
lan and Ann Boozer of Stony Hill
4-H club give a demonstration on
the preparation of a good break
fast. t
Wilma Boozer, also of Stony
Hill shared with toe group thru a
demonstration of the value of her
home garden. It was centered
around the production of tomatoes
for home consumption.
