stay at Myrtle Beach. The Wat
ters will return to Newberry for a
few days more visit with Dr.
Moore before returning to their
home in Atlanta.
MRS. FURMAN STERLING re
turned home last Friday after
visiting her cousins, the Dicksons,
the Williamsons and the Halls in
Dallas, Texas, and also Mrs. J. D.
Kerr and Mrs. Jake Stilwell in
Phoenix, Arizona. She was gone
about ten days.

Held Sunday
Pinckney Woods Trammell, 69,

Veterans Hospital In Columbia
Tuesday of last week after an Ill
ness of three months.
Mr. Tranrtnell was born and
reared In Union Countv, a son of
the late J. T. and Mary Agnes
Willard Trammell. For the past
25 years he had made his home- in
Newberry County.

To Begin 101st
Session Sept 10
Columbia College will begin its
101st session on Friday, Septem
ber 10 when the faculty will as
semble for a two-day workshhp,
President R. Wright Spears has
announced.
Freshmen are due to arrive on
Monday, September 13, for a week
of orientation activities. Transfer
students will assemble on Wed
nesday, September 15. Upperclass-
. men will return on Thursday, Sept-

To Play Elk
Benefit Game
The famous Washington Red
skin 110-piece band will share the
spotlight with the equally famous
Washington Redskins and Chicago
Bears in Columbia Saturday night
in the annual Elks’ Club charity
football game.
The game starts at 8 p.m. un
der the recently improved light
ing system at Carolina Stadium.
The hand, making one of its few
trips into the deep South, will
play during the game and give a
special show at ba^f-time.
Moat of the seats between the
40-yard lines have been sold, but
tickets for good seats are still
available and will be sold at the
gates. Tickets are on sale in Co
lumbia at Frayson’s Men’s Store
and at the Elks’ Lodge. They are
$3.60 each.
Hayes Infant Rites
Conducted Monday
Randal Efird Hayes, infant son
of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Hayes of
Joanna, died Sunday afternoon at
the Joanna Hospital.
Survivors include his parents;
two sisters, Peggy Sue and Cathy
Lee Hayes of Joanna; his maternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. S.
Holt of Joanna, and several aunts
and uncles.

For the third year in a row,
more than three million visitors
enjoyed the facilities at South
Carolina’s twenty-two state parks
according to State Park Director

Figures complied iby the S. C.
State Commission of Forestry
show that 3,20?,094 visitors were
counted at the state parks during
the yenf ending, June. 30, 195L
Picnicking continued to be en
joyed by more people than any
other activity,’ as 1,160,882 picnick
ers were reported. Swimming was
also popular, as 847,517 enjoyed
this, activity. Fishing, boating, and
camping also attracted many visi
tors to the parks.
According to Mr. Jacocks, state
park use this past summer has
been extremely heavy as thou
sands of South Carolinians flock
ed to these wooded areas to beat
the heat.

There is no admission charge at
any of the state parks, and the
parks db flot cldse at the end of
the siunmer swimming season.

year for visitors to picnic, fish and
use the family vacation cabins.

Shock Fatal To
W. S. Lindley
Wyman S. Lindley, 22 was kill
ed at 9 a.m. Saturday morning at
his home near Dennis Dairy in the
Hartford section \ of Newberry
County. He was in the piocess of
moving from Route 4 to a new
home on Adelaide Street. He was
disconnecting a hot water heater
when he came in contact with an
electric wire. He was rushed to the
Newberry County Memorial Hos
pital but was pronounced dead on
arrival, according to Coroner
George R. Summer.
Mr. Lindley was born in Green
ville County but had lived in New'
berry for a number of years. He
was the son of J. B. and Mrs; Vic
tOrla Bobb Lindley. He was a vet*
erap of the Korean War, being die-
charged from service in April, tie
was attending the Area Trade
School in Columbia where he wis
taking a course in mechanics and
machinist.
He is survived by his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Lindley; one
brother, Bobb Lindley, all of New
berry, and his grandparents, Mr.
and. Mrs. Luther Bobb of Prosper
ity, and a number of uncles and
aunts.
(Funeral services were conduct
ed at 4 p.m. Sunday from Bach
man Chapel Lutheran Church by
the Rev. Joseph E. Walker and
the Rev. J. L. Drafts. Interment
followed in the church cemetery.
