Calendar Society Holds Meet With Mrs. Clem Youmans The January meeting of the Calendar Society was held at the home of Mrs. Clem Youmans, with the following serving as as sociate hostesses: Mrs. Dave Hayes, Mrs. George Dominick, Mrs. Ernest Clary, Mrs. W. R. Bouknight, Miss Martha Bauknight and Mrs. H. D. Wil liams. The president, Mrs. Baker, pre sided. Mrs. Meek served as secre tary. (Formerly Macedonia School District), $3500. Stoney Hill 4-H Boys Hold Regular Meet - Th<* Stoney Hill 4-H Club Boys held their monthly meeting on January 8 with George Hawkins presiding. The club was called to order by the president. The min utes were read and the roll wias called by the Secretary. Scripture was read by Jerry Lester and prayer was led by Mar ion Monts /after which the mem bers sang “Billy Boy’’ and “Amer ica’’. Mr. Ridgeway then led in the Flag Salute and 4-11 Pledge. The meeting was turned over to Mr. Ridgeway, who showed us how we could prevent the rat problem. The meeting was ad journed to meet in February. Reporter: Joe Boozer. MISS JACOBS LEAVE FOR ROCKVILLE Miss Manning Jacobs, daughter of Deputy and Mrs. Hugh Shan non, who is a senior nurse student at the Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, N. C., left Charlotte last Wednesday for Rockville, Md., where she will spend three months taking a special course in psy chiatry. After finishing her course in Rockville, Miss Jacobs will re turn to the Presbyterian Hospital iif Charlotte to complete her course before graduating in Sept ember. , to God. If each day is lived right, the whole year will tie right. After a prayer, Mrs. Spell closed with the thought that “if you put your hand in that of God’s, He will lead the way.” The president thanked the mem bers for their cooperation and ac complishments, even though she had not been able to attend each meeting. The treasurer reported that $683.36 had been cleared on Ba zaar to date. Mrs. Mike Youmans, chairman of the smock commit tee, reported that all of the smocks were sold bringing the total on sale of smocks to $185.00. Mrs. William Buford, chairman of the “Kiddie Korner,” reported that she still had a number of nice articles for babies and children, and asked the members to keep this in mind when they were in need for such for gifts, etc. After the conclusion of all busi ness the meeting was closed with prayer by Mrs. Mamie Hornsby. A social period followed, and the hostesses served delicious re freshments. . PERSONAL ; MENTION MRS. GEORGE W. SBNN, Mr. and Mrs. Tyrus Senn and son, Sedley, spent Sunday in Clemson in the home of Prof, and Mrs. T. L. Senn. MR. AND MRS. WALTER REEDER of Laurens were Sunday visitors in the home of Mr. Reed er’s sister, Mrs. J. T. Pitts on James street. MRS. ARDEN HALLMAN and two children, Art and Walter of Summit, spent Friday and Satur day in the home of Mrs. Hall man’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John B. Harmon on Brown street. MR. AND MRS. H. E. BECK HAM have moved to 2221 Harp er street. The Beckhams are new comers to Newberry. Mr. Beck ham, who is connected with an in surance company here has been in the city for about three months. MR. AND MRS. TROY W. COT- NEY have moved in an apartment in the home of Miss Mary Wheel er, 1434 Harper street. MR. AND MRS. RICHARD L. BAKER left Tuesday for High Point, N. C. to attend the semi annually furniture market. They will return to Newberry this week end. Methodist Women To Hold Joint Bible Study Jan. 25th. A Bible Study The Prophet Jere miah will be conducted by the Woman’s Society of Christian Ser vice of Central Methodist Church and the Lebanon Methodist Church January 25-28. It will meet from 3:30-5:00 each afternoon in the Ezell Bible class room. The following schedule has been worked out: January 25. Circle No. 5 with Mrs. Herbert L. Spell as the teacher. She will be assisted by the following members of the group: Mrs. Kirby Lomi- nack, Mrs. S. C. Griffith and Mrs. J. E. Wiseman. Special music will be given by Miss Alice Carter. Jan. 26. The Louise Best Circle with Mrs. Otis Whitaker as the teacher. Those assisting her are: Mrs. R. D. Wright, Mrs. M. O. Summer, Miss Martha Bouknight, Miss Sallle Cromer, Mrs. T. C. Tindall, Mrs. Holland Sligh and Mrs. D. J. Williams. Mrs. P. K. Harmon and Mrs. William Hentz will render special music. Recent Births LESLIE Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Leslie, Jr., (Miriam Kirby of Spartanburg) 1410 Friend street, are receiving congratulations upon the birth of a six pound fifteen ounce son, Irvine Lee, born Monday, January 18th in the Newberry Memorial Hospital. The Leslies have two other chil dren, Deloria Patricia two and one half years old and Gordon Stewart, III, one year old. KOON Mr. gnd Mrs. C. R. Koon (Mar garet Simpson) of Route 2, Pros perity announce the birth of an eight pound one ounce daughter, Bickie Agnes, who arrived at the Newberry Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 18th. WILES Mr. and Mrs. Everette Wiles (Catherdine Long, Silverstreet) an nounce the birth of a seven pound ten ounce daughter, Pamela Sue, born on Wednesday, January 13th in the Providence Hospital in Co lumbia. Pamela Sue’s grandpar ents, are Prof, and Mrs. John Grady Long of Silverstreet. Brother-In-Law Of Mrs. Welborn Dies Dr. Homer M. Daniel, 60, of 703 Boulevard, Anderson, died at the Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia Thursday at 8 p.m. following sev eral months’ illness. Dr. Daniel received his medi cal degree from Emory University, Atlanta, Ga., in -1916. He came to Anderson in 1917 and set up prac tice in the Roberts community. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Woodmen of the World, the Masonic lodge and was a member and deacon of Ander son First Baptist Church. He was a son of the late* M. F. and Snsie Conwell Daniel. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eu genia Hentz Daniel, the daughter of the late Dr. E. O. Hentz of New berry; three daughters, Mrs. R. L. Lee, Miami, Fla.; Mrs. C. B. Parr, Jr., formerly of Newberry, and now of Marietta, Ga. and Mrs. J. W. Kelly, Jr., AJnderson; nine grandchildren. Mrs. Walter Welborn of this city is the sister of Dr. Daniel’s widow. Funeral services were conduct ed at Sullivan-King Mortuary Sat urday at 11 a.m. by Dr. F. C. Mc Connell. Burial followed in New Silver Brook cemetery. Taylor-Cochran Rites Solemnized On Friday Miss Lou Ellen Cochran and Mr. Jimmie D. Taylor were joined in holy matrimony on Friday, Janu ary 15, 1954 at 5 o’clock. The impressive double ring ceremony took place at the residence of 2019 Nance SL, Newberry, by the Rev. Julian B. Harman, D.D. in the presence of a few close relatives. The bride was beautifully at tired in a blue suit with black ac cessories and a corsage of white carnations. Mrs. Taylor is the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Cochran of Newberry. She attend ed the schools of Newberry and is employed at the Newberry Garment Co. Mr. Taylor is the son of'Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Taylor, Sr. of Newber ry. He attended the Newberry schools and served 4% years in the Air Force. He is employed with Joanna Mills, Inc. Immediately after the ceremony the couple left for a wedding trip, after which they will make their home with the groom’s parents.
