For 1954, a total of 13 body models are available in three styling, the new Chevrolets meet other high standards besides eye appeal, series of cars. Kemper Chevrolet Company Shows 3 Series Of 1954 Cars Tomorrow More power, an extension of the antomatic transmission option to all cars, and design revisions to accentuate the low, flowing beauty .of the three body series highspot the 1954 Chevrolets. The latest models, scheduled to MO on display at the Kemper Chevrolet Co. tomorrow (Friday), benefit as well from re-styled in teriors, a wider choice of rich colors and color harmonies and chassis advances to assure quieter operation with increased perform ance. Power brakes, adding safety and driving control, become optional for the first time in the low-price field with the introduction. As still another “first” in Chevrolet’s market, electric front seat and window lifts are also available. This convenience provides pass enger car comfort through push button control. Given special prominence in the presentation is the Bel Air Series, which Chevrolet pioneered so suc cessfully as a luxury line a year ago. An eight-passenger station wagon brings to five the number of Bel Air body types. The comp any has also announced that con vertibles will be hereafter con centrated in this series. Another departure in the line up of 13 passenger car models is the introduction of a utility sedan in the “One-Fifty” or lowest priced series. This body, replac ing the former business coupe, of fers an amazing 54 cubic feet of storage space. Again in 1954 Chevrolets will be powered by a choice of two engines, each more powerful and responsive than its 1963 counter part. The 115-horsepower “Blue Flame” engine is used in gear shift models. An engine of 125- horsepower couples with the Powerglide automatic shift, now available on all cars, including the sedan delivery. Other chassis advances cover improvements in the cluch of gear shift models, a longer, deeper- toned and sound deadening muf fler, and nylon rear spring inserts to eliminate the necessity for lub rication. In appearance the 1954 Chevro lets have a longer, more rugged look. Designed for a broader, low er effect, the front bumper has been curved farther around the fender. The grille, bumper guards, parking lamps and hood ornamen tation have been modified to con form with the hew motif. Al though the brightwork of the in dividual series profiles remains much the same, design touches at the rear re-emphasize the distinc tion of the line. Of prime interest are the two- tone interiors of the bodies. Stylists have taken full advantage of new fabrics to combine eye- appeal and practicability. A lavish use of vinyl, an easily washed ma terial, is apparent. The 13 two-tone combinations, featuring such ex otic partnerships as' ivory and turquoise and beige and an un usual tan, are perhaps the most striking yet unveiled by the in dustry. Totaling the number of body types and colors, the custo mer has 161 selections from which to draw when he buys a Chevrolet. The Powerglide automatic trans mission, now in service on more than 1,500,000 Chevrolets, is con tinued with modifications for im proved high speed acceleration. The new engine with which Powerglide is teamed will ap preciably boost performance, par ticularly in the higher speed ranges when emergency power may be required for passing or hill climbing. The power plant in the Power- glide option uses the time-proven valve-in-head six cylinder principle with 125-horsepower available at 4000 revolutions per minute. An innovation is the installation of high-lift cams and improvement in valve mechanism to make pos sible a freer intake of combution mixtures and a more complete ex plosion of exhaust gases. The result is increased breathing ef ficiency at the same compression ratio of 7.5 to 1. The Blue Flame “115” engine introduces into the so-called stand ard power train ‘ such features as full-pressure lubrication, alumi num pistons, insert-type connect ing rod bearings and a more rigid crankshaft and connecting rods. As true of the “125”, displacement is 235 cubic inches with the engine reaching 115 horsepower at 3700 rpms. Compression ratio lists at 7.5 to 1. Better economy and smoother, quit :er operation are characteristics. "I REMEMBER BY THE OLD TIMERS From Boso Texino, San Antonio, Texas: Since we have more stores and the larger ones have enlarged we don’t have the knock down and drag out bargain sales like we used to have in the big city department stores. Like way back yonder .when you could buy a gallon jug of wine; a loaf of bread and a shade tree all for 89c. The newspapers used to run whole section ads about these sales. I remember going to one about 40-years ago to buy a pair of overalls. I was pushed around the store until I got strand ed in the ladies ready to wear de partment. Whoever said the female of the species is the weaker sex must have been John I*.-Siglivan or some heavyweight champion, as I got two blade eyes and a cauli flower ear at this sale. When I finally got home I had something like a pebble in my brogan and when I pulled off my shoe with the wide open space at the top you can imagine my sur prise when a ladies earring fell out that had been slapped off some fair ones ear and landed in my shoe. By returning this diamond heir loom earring to the rightful owner I was forced to accept a reward to more than pay for my overalls and the rough treatment I suffered at the sale.
