MISS JOANNE HALFACRE, a student at Columbia College, spent the Thanksgiving Holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Halfacre on Hunt street. MR. AND MRS. BOYD CAMP BELL and three sons, Billy, Joe and John of Spartanburg, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mims and three sons, David, Kent and Steve of Sumter, Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Camp bell and daughter Anne, were Thanksgiving Day dinner guests in the home of Mrs. W. H. Shannon and Miss Jo Shannon on Fair street. MR. AND MRS.’ C. L. PLESS of Cleveland, Ga., spent Thanksgiv ing Day in the home of Mrs. Pless’ mother, Mrs. L. W. Wilson, and Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Burns on Cline street. MISS DORIS SCHUMPERT, a member of the Florence city school faculty, spent the Thanksgiving holidays here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Schumpert on Boundary street. MISS FRANCES SANDERS of Union, attended the Newberry-P. C. game here on Thanksgiving dav, and also visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Schumpert on Boundary street. MR. AND MRS. BILL TURNER have moved to 2009 Harper street in an apartment in the home of Mrs. B. M. Scurry. MR. AND MRS. BILL MILLER of Columbia, spent Thanksgiving Day in the home of Mrs. Miller’s brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Hendrix Monts, and attend ed the Newberry-P. C. game. MR. AND MRS. ROLAND FELKER spent Thanksgiving Day at Shaw Field with their son-in- law and daughter, S/Sgt. L. C. Pitts, III, and family. MR. AND MRS. ROBERT REA GIN and Mrs. A. K. Epting of Greenwood, John Glass, a student at Newberry College and Clyde Bedenbaugh, a student at Colum bia seminary, spent Sunday in the home of Mrs. Gurdon Counts in Prosperity. MRS. H. E. COUNTS has return ed to .her home in Prosperity, after a week's visit in Washing ton with her son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Alexander. MRS. J. D. LUTHER of Pros perity is spending three weeks with her daughter in New York City. MISSES SYLVIA BOOZER and Orpah DuBose, students at Lander College spent the Thanksgiving holiday with their parents in New berry. MISSES HELEN HOWELL and Betty Jean Dean, students at Lan der College, spent the Thanksgiv ing Holiday at their homes in Whitmire. MRS. DAISY B. DENNING, who underwent an eye operation ’ in Duke Hospital, Durham, N. C., re cently, is now recuperating at the home of her niece in Durham. She plans to return home sometime this weekend. LYN CONNELLY R eturning to her first love, ■ Arlene Francis, femcee of “Fur for All” and panelist on “What’s My Line,” opened in a new Broad way play, ”Late Love” recently . . . Arlene has the role of a lady book illustrator who attempts to influence an author . . Although she has been under the bright lights off and on ever since she left school, Arlene gained her prin cipal fame as a panelist on radio and TV . . Her only previous hit show was ”Dough Girls” . . .. Mercedes McCambridge will double her duties by taking on an impor tant feature role in the new Joan Crawford film "Johnny Guitar” while continuing her radio series. “Family Skeleton.” Eileen Barton, whose waxing of ’Toys,” has been given top honors in the trade paper polls for weeks now. heads for the recording stu dios in a few weeks to make some more discs . . Eileen has been busy in clubs and theaters, too . . And Spike Jones, who has them laughing with his latest, a satire on “Dragnet" (everybody wants to get intp the act), is going to make his first movie in several years . . He will play a fire chief in Abbott and Costello’s "Fireman, Save My Child". . . Tony Martin may play Harry Richman in the film biography of that popular star.
