Next time you fry leftover pota toes in the skilled add some diced RECIPE OF THE WEEK Mushroom Spoon Bresd (Serves 6-8) cups milk 2 cans (2tt cups) cream of mushroom soup 1 cup yellow commeal 2 tablespoons butter 4 eggs, separated Combine milk and soup. Add cornmeal; cook slowly until the consistency ot mush; add butter. Beat egg yolks; add to cornmeal mixture. Beat egg whites stiff but not dry; fold into cornmeal mixture. Bake in a greased 2-quart casserole in a moderate (350°) oven about 1 hour or until done. Serve hot with butter. bacon while cooking and then sprinkle the potatoes with chopped parsley before serving. Can of peach halves on the shelf? Serve them as dessert with a scoop of ice cream rolled in shredded coconut and top with thawed frozen raspberries. , Like a good sandwich, just a bit different? Toast white bread, top with broiled bacon, lettuce and sliced tomato. Serve with cheese sauce. You’D like omelets with herbs in them. Sweet marjoram, tarragon or basil will give a simple omelet a real gourmet touch. THE NEWBERRY SUN PAGE FIVE Newberry and Presbyterian Battle To 7-7 Tie Here In Thanksgiving Thriller Defense proved too much for both teams as Presbyterian Col lege and Newberry scrapped to a 7-7 tie here last Thursday after noon before an estimated 6,000 chilled spectators in the State Lit tle Three football championship game. The Newberry Indians drove to the Presbyterian Blue Hose seven- yard line twice in the first quarter and lost the ball on fumbles each time. The Tribesmen reached the PC 28 in the first period but the drive was halted on an intercepted pass. Neither team threatened in the second quarter of the annual Bronze Derby Thanksgiving day battle. Presbyterian drove 40 yards on six plays to score miaway in the third period. A 15-yard penalty took PC to the Newberry one-yard line on that drive. Harry Hamil ton failed to go across on two quarterback sneaks and handed off to Fullback Joe Austin, who scored through left tackle. Gene Carter kicked the extra»point. Newberry scored the next time it had the ball, taking the kick off from its 29 to tally on three plays. Danny Brabham, Indian quarter back, pitched out to Fullback Paul Davis of Abbeville who cut over to midfield from, right end for a 55-yard touchdown run. Harry Hamilton, PC’s star quarterback from Seneca, com pleted 12 of 29 passes for 116 yards. He intercepted two passes within the five-yard line tq stop Newberny scoring threats. The Seneca sniper has made good on 72 of 162 passes this season for 863 yards and six touchdowns in seven games. Austin and Curtis Freeman gained the most rushing yardage for the Hose with 36 and 34, re spectively. End Bobby Jackson and Austin caught three of Ham ilton’s passes apiece. Guard Luther Shealy and Tackle Wayne Shoemaker had 10 individual tackles each for PC. Brabham gained 89 yards in 17 carries for the Indians and hit on three of six pass attempts for 75 more yards. Left Half-back Grady Ray gained 73 yards in sev en rushing carries. Fullback Stan Bessinger gained 72 yards in 16 tries. Defensive standout for the In dians were 270-pound Tackle Grover Davis of McCormick who twice knocked down Hamilton’s passes at the line of scrimmage. Center Ed Hester and Guard Johir- ny Lee. First Quarter Newberry won the coin toss by Referee Charley Moss and elected to receive. Ray returned the kickoff to his own 21 and Brabham gained sev en yards around right end on the quarterback keep play. Bessinger hit left tackle for ning yards, tak ing Newberry to its own 37. Ray took Brabham’s pitchout down the left sidelines to the PC 15-yard line , but Brabham fum bled two plays later with PC's Jackson recovering on the sev en. . The Presbyterian Blue Hose gained two yards on two plays and Boulware punted from the end zone. Brabham caught Boul- ware's punt on the 48 of PC where he was tackled. Bessinger drove through left tackle for 18 yards and Brabham sneaked for two more. Brabham’s pass was intercepted by Hamilton who returned to his 39. Jackson lost a fumble on the PC |49 two plays later with Bessinger recov ering.. Brabham’s handoff to Paul Davis, Bessinger’s drive through center and Brabham’s 16-yard run through right tackle took New berry to the Presbyterian 18. Brabham’s jump pass to End Ed Blanko was good for six yards, and Bessinger hit right tackle to the PC seven. Luther Shealy recovered for PC on its seven-yard line. The Blue Hose picked up 17 yards on five nlays and punted to their 45. New berry held for three plays and six yards. PC took over on its own and drove to the 34 on passes from Hamilton to Counts and Jackson for gains of eight and 12 yards. Second Quarter Hamilton failed on three straight passes and punted with Ben Jones returning to the Newberry 35. Ken Morgan took over at quarterback for the Indians and passed to Blan ko and Mike Maksin for gains of 24 and 21 yards to the PC 36-yard line. Maxwell picked up five yards at center two plays later and Jones punted into the PC end zone. Blue went around right end for 10 yards and Hamilton’s pass to Austin on the third play was good for seven yards. Hamilton punted out of bounds on the Newberry 29. Bessinger, Morgan and Davis took Newberry to its 45 on three plays. Brabham sneaked to the PC 41, tried a pass and punted. Neither team drove past mid- field the rest of the period. Third Quarter Hamilton returned the second half kickoff to the Presbyterian 40-yard line. A handoff to Austin and a short pass to Jackson took the Blue Hose to the Indians’ 46. The Seneca quarterback completed a fite-yard toss to Counts, missed on another aerial and punted with the ball rolling out on Newberry’s 15. Bessinger fumbled on New berry’s first play with Jackson recovering on the Indians 13. Ham ilton sneaked to the nine-yard line and then moved to the six on a penalty against the Indians. Blue was tackled on the 10-yard line. Ray and Maksim knocked down two straight passes on the goal line. Newberry took over on its 10. gained eight yards on three plays and punted. Blue returned G. Davis’ punt to the Newberry 40 to begin the Blue Hose touch down drive. Hamilton hit Gene Altman on an 11-yard pass play. Austin found a hole at left tackle for two yards. Hamilton was spilled for a seven yard loss on the next play but Newberry was penalized 15 yards for holding, taking PC to the one- yard line. Hamilton sneaked to the one- foot line, failed to gain on a second quarterback sneak and handed off to Austin who ran through left tackle to score. Gene Carter kicked the extra point. PC 7, Newberry 0. Newberry returned the kickoff to its own 29 to begin its touch down march. Brabham picked up three yards around end. *Ray drove for 10 yards through right tackle. Brabham, on the third play, pitched out to Paul Davis on the Newberry 45. Davis cut back to the middle of the field,- found block ing at the PC 45, and ran down the sidelines for a 55-yard scor ing jaunt. Grover Davis kicked the extra point to tie the score at 7-7, PC drove to the Newberry six before the period ended. The In dians tried an onside kick but the ball hit Shealy in the chest. He fell on the Newberry 46. Carter crashed through center for 16 yards to the Newberry 30, and ran through right tackle to the 24. Blue took Hamilton’s pitchout around right end to the nine-yard line. PC failed on two passes and gave the ball to the Indians. Fourth Quarter Newberry drove as far as its 31 and punted; Presbyterian reached the Newberry 47 on two Hamilton passes but failed on two aerials and lost 10 yards on pen alties. Ray stepped eut of' bounds on his 28 when returning Hamilton’s punt. Bessinger and Brabham drove to the 43 on two running plays. Brabham passed to Ben Jones for 22 yards to the Hose 35. The Indians tried four more plays, gaining two yards. PC took over on its 32, gained eight yards and punted . Newberry marched from its 33 to the PC 20 on 12 plays but Hamilton intercepted Morgan’s pass on the three yard line to end the game.
