cut when he stepped on a broken

John Adam Shealy, Sa. resident
of the St. Fhillip section of Now
berry County, died at iiis home
early Tuesday morning following
one year declining health and a
sudden serious illness.
A son of the late Pleasant Hil
lard and Frances Rebecca Fpting
Shealy, he was born and reared in
Newberry County. He was one of
the oldest members of St. Phillips
Lutheran Church.
Surviving are bis wife, Mrs.
Mary Flizabeth Mayer Shealy:
four sons, James H. of Ward, Hen
ry F. of Leesville, Hugh B. of
Johnston and Johnny H. of New
berry; four daughters, Mrs. Mar
vin J. Pinson of Spartanburg.
Mrs. Bennie Dominick of Pomaria,
Mrs. Edward Long and Mrs. Lewis
Miles of Newberry; three sisters,
Mrs. Bub Fpting, Mrs. Lude Shealy
and Mrs. Lula Miller of Pomaria;
two brothers. Joe of Pomaria and
Olin of Clinton; 11 grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conduct-
i eported as being back at work ed Wednesday at p.m. at St.
Wednesday mornjng. Phillips Lutheran Church by the

164,027.43 and that the value of
the members share is $320,184.20
against the liabilities of $843,-

Three new directors were elect
ed Saturday, D. E. Ruff. John
Earl Smith and Hubert Beden-
baugh.

school auditorium, was attended
by around one thousand members
and their families T. B. Amis,
chairman of tin 1 RFA. presided. A
large number of door prizes were

A highlight of the meeting was

Mrs. Tom Moss of Greenville.

aldermen wane elected by voters
of tin* ward in which they lived
and residents of that ward voted
for only one councilman. That is
not the case now. Several years
ago, the city-wide system of
electing councilman was adopted.
Now in older for a candidate for
alderman to he elected, he must
receiv'e a majority of the votes
cast by voters throughout the city.
However, he must he a resident
of the ward m which he is seek
ing election

An alderman will be selected from
Ward 1. Ward 3, and Ward i>.
Mayor Wiseman. Alderman Duf
ford from Ward 2. Layton from
Ward 4. and Holloway. Ward 6.

two wa\ choice in Ward 1, with
appearing on the ballot. They are
asking election to tlie seat to he
vacated December 3i by George
W. Martin who lias moved from
Ward 1. In Ward three, there will

Fd. McDonnell and Strother D.
Pay singer competing for favor.
Councilman F. W. Dickert did not
offer for Reelection. In the other
race. Ward 5, there are three as
pirants for the council post, in
cumbent Cecil E. Kinard is seek
ing reelection, and opposing him
are two newcomers to politics.

F. Merchant.
Councilmen elected at Tuesday's
primary wil take office on Janu
ary 1. and will serve for a two-
year period.
