Bi-Color Lespedeza
Available Now
The Newberry Soil Conservation
District has been allotted 70
pounds of bicolor lespedeza seed
for distribution to Newberry
County farmers, according to E. E.
Epting of the Soil Conservation
Service.
Mr, Epting said that these seed
would be limited to five pounds
per farm; and, that they are being
furnished by the South Carolina

Bicolor lespedeza is a shrub
which produces a heavy crop of
slow-shattering seed.
, Quail usually set up winter
quarters near plantings of bicolor.
One-eighth acre is necessary to
supply one covey for the entire
fall and winter season.
Farmers interested in seeding
bicolor should make application
for the seed at the office of the
Soil Conservation Service not
later than Feb. 16.
Fifty-four thousand plants of bi
color lespedeza are now on hand

with the District. Those who have

Self-Employed
Must Report S.S.
On Income Forms
If you are one of the millions
of self-employed people who will
file their second annual social se
curity tax report this year, you
now have insurance protection un
der social security, Miss Martha
Pressly, manager o^ the Green
wood social security office an
nounced today.
These are people who made a
social security report of their sejf-
employment earnings for 1951,
who are filing similar'reports for
their earnings in 1952, and who
will have paid the' social security
tax for each year. Social secur
ity reports on self-employment
earnings are made on special
forms and are sent to the Director
of Internal Revenue at the time of
filing Federal income tax returns.
Miss Pressly says that self-em
ployed persons who have been in
work that counts toward social
security during 1951. and 1952 now
have insurance protection at least
until mid-1955 from that work
alone. If they reach 65 and re
tire before then they will be en
titled to monthly old-age benefit
payments; in case of death be
fore mid-1955 their families can
get monthly survivors insurance
payments.
Many persons now self-employ
ed had previously worked for
wages in employment covered by
social security. This work is
credited, of course, toward being
insured, and the credits earned at
&ny time since 1936 may be add
ed to those earned in self-employ
ment, Miss Pressly said.
Each additional year of work
qovered by the law will extend the
protection for two more years,
Miss Pressly says. She points out
that self-employed persons must
make a report and pay the social
security tax once exery year to
keep this insurance protection in
force. After ten years of work
under social security, a person
is permanently insured. Miss
Pressly also reminds them of the
importance of having a social se
curity card, and of copying the
number from that card on the so
cial security report of self-employ
ment earnings that they file with
their income tax return. Every
one is required to file a social
security report and pay the tax if
his self-employment earnings are
$400 or more in a year.

prised even herself with her tonal
quality.
Miss Field, a native of England,
made her stage debut while still
an undergraduate at the Max
Reinhardt Theatre in Vienna and
studied voice during her school
years.
"Week End With Father” was
directed by Douglas Sirk and pro
