have moved to the Oakland Mill
Boarding house, which was moved
from the village sometime ago to

Gallo ian Prexy
T. A. Gallman was elected presi
dent of the Exchange Club of New
berry for 1953 at the annual elec
tion meeting of the club Tuesday
night at the Wiseman hotel. Mr.
Gallman is prsently serving as
vice-president of the group. He
will succeed E. Maxcy Stone.
Other officers named were
Charlie Bowers, vice president,
Cecil G. Williams, Secretary, and
Carl Amlck was re-elected club
treasurer.
Elected to the board of control
were A1 Weigle, Marion Workman
and Wayne Mullinax.
The newly-elected officers will
be installed at the first regular
meeting in January.
MR. CANNON IN
LOCAL HOSPITAL
Henry T. Cannon, who had the
misfortune to fall at his home on
Boundary street last Saturday,
was admitted to the Newberry
Memorial Hospital Wednesday of
this week for treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Eargle of
Blacksburg, spent the Thanksgiv
ing holidays at their home here on
Summer street. Mr. Eargle is a
member of the Blacksburg school
faculty.

Plans Customary
Christmas Meet
The December meeting of Dray
ton Rutherford chapter will be
held on the afternoon of the 9th,
at 3:30 at the home of Mrs. Hunt
er Brown with Mrs. Houseal Norris
as associate hostess. As is the
custom of the chapter this will
be in the spirit of the Christmas
season. The historical number
will be “Christmas Episodes in
Peace and War in the South."
There will be special music num
bers, after which all will join In
singing Christmas carols. Mem
bers are reminded of their Christ
mas packages.
The souvenir plates have ar
rived and the committee will be
delivering some of these this week
—at least two to a member so
that there may be sufficient funds
in hand to meet the payment whe*
due. Friends of the chapter will
find these plates ideal for Christ
mas gifts, especially for friends
who have once lived in Newberry.
From the sale of these plates the
chapter hopes to meet its entire
(luota for the Memorial Building
to the Women of the Confederacy
to be erected in Richmond.
