SOUTHERNER DEFENDS
“YOU ALL”
At long last those outlanders
who poke fun at the South about
“you all” are on the run.
Perhaps you’ve noticed that the
ribbing via movies, radio and the
written word has all but ceased.
Why? It is too much to expect
that it has finally dawned on these
smug comedians that when we in
the South say “you all” we mean
two or more persons and not one?
We’ve been trying to get that
across to them for years.
It has been a long educational
process, but many are those who
have assisted in spreading the en
lightenment. A star example is
the lady in Dallas, Texas, who
conducted a letter to the editor
campaign.
She cited as sufficient author
ity for the use of “you all” the
many times the phrase is found
in the Bible, thus inferring that
the comics who poke fun at “you
all” are guilty, to a degree, of sac
rilege. She gave these references:
Job 17-1 <>; Acts 3:16; Romans
15:33; Ephesians 4:6; Phillippians
1:4, 7, 8, Colossians 4:9; Titus
315.
“I often have wondered,” she
wrote, “if people chided Paul for
saying ‘you all” instead of ‘you
Romans’ of ‘you Ephesians,.”
Then she added this clincher,
quoting the very last verse in the
Bible: “The grace of our Lord
Jesus Christ be with y i all.
Amen.

NEWBERRIAN’S SISTER
PASSES AWAY IN CALIF.
News was received in Newberry
early Monday morning of the death
of Mrs. W. B. (Aileen Broaddus)
Sanders, only sister of Miss Le-
nore Broaddus, who died at her
home in Hpmosa Beach, Cali
fornia last Friday, October 17th.
Mrs. Sanders will be remember
ed by many Newberrians, when
she lived in Newberry as a young
girl when her father, the late Rev.
Luther Broaddus was pastor of the
First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held in
California Monday morning, Octo
ber 20th.
Provincials are people who
think it is their duty to improve
neighbors instead of the country.
Twenty million football fans
across the country are expected to
witness the “TV Football Game of
The Week” next Saturday, Octo
her 25, when the University of
Illinois clashes with Purdue’s
Boilermakers in the 71,000 seat
stadium of Champaign, Urbana,
Illinois. The game will be tele
vised over the national NBC net
work under the sponsorship of
General Motors.
The contest will have am im
portant bearing on the Big Ten
Conference standings with Purdue,
undefeated in Conference competi
tion to date, pitted against a
strong mini' aggregation. Last
year Illinois led the conference
with Purdue rated second.
Mel Allen and Russ Hodges will
be at the sportscaster’s micra
phones while Bill Henry will pro
vide background and color. The
broadcast . is scheduled for 2:15
P.M. EST, with, the game slated
to commence at 2:30 P.M.
As last year’s Rose Bowl repre
sentative for the Big Ten, Illinois
is precluded from this year’s Bowl
competition by the two-year rule
but there’s nothing to prevent
Purdue from nursing dreams of
a place in the New Year's Day
extravaganza.
