Mrs. Marvin O. Summer is visiting her son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. McBeth Sprouse and family in Knoxville, Tenn. Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas of Aiken, were Sunday visitors in the home of Mrs. Thomas' par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Drayton Nance on Johnstone street. Little Herman Lee Shealy of Union, spent last week in the home of his' grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Halfacre in the St. Phillips community. Mr. and Mrs. Carlisle Kennedy and daughter of Camden, are visiting in the home of Mr. Ken nedy's parents, Dr. and Mrs. R. M. Kennedy on Harper street. Miss Ethel Boozer of Charlotte, N. C., is expected to spend thfe weekend in the home of her nephew, R. Derrill Smith and Mrs. Smith on E. Main street. Miss Ruth Amis is spending the month of June at Camp Pinnacle, near Hendersonville, N. C. This Is the second summer Miss Amis has been Junior Counselor there. Mrs. Eugene McCaskill and two children, Beth and Kathy of Conway, are visiting in the home of Mrs. McCaskill's parents. Dr. and Mrs. Bothwell Graham on Calhoun street. Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Lambeth and daughter Kathy, of George town are planning on spending this weekend with Mrs. Lambeth’s parentr, Mr .and Mrs. R. Derrill Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Campbell and three children, Billy, Joe and John, of Spartanburg, are visiting in the home of Mr. Campbell's parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Camp bell on Harrington street. Lieut, and Mrs. Drayton Nance and twp sons, Jim and Jon, of Greenville Air Base, spent from Friday^ until Sunday in the home of Lieutenant Nance’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Drayton Nance on Johnstone street. Mrs. Joseph Mighton of Wil mington, N. C., the former Miss Sue Ella Peterson of this city, ar rived Monday for a visit with her sister, Mrs. Fillmore Bowler on Glenn stret. Mrs. Mighton will spend about a week in the ^:ity. Mrs. H. B. Wells, Sr. and her sister, Mrs. Rufus Hutchin son of Easley spent Wednesday in Laurens in the home of their niece, Mrs. Farmer Brown and family. Mrs. Wells was acompain- ed to Laurens by her son, Fulmer Wells. Mrs. J. S. Watters and three children, Laurie, Bunny and Sal ly, will return to their home in Atlanta, Ga., this weekend after a week’s visit in the home of Mrs. Waiter’s parents, Dr. and Mrs. E. H. Moore in the Mt. Bethel Germany community. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Mcllwain and son Billy Jr., of Memphis, Tenn., spent the past week in the home of Mr. Mcllwain’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Forest Lominack on Glenn street. James Ernest Kinard of Newberry was among the 415 graduates of Emory University that received Professional De grees Friday afternoon, June 6. Rev. Kinard received the Degree of Bachelor of Divinity from The Candler School of Theology. In the absence of Dean Trimble, As sociate Dean Wyatt Aiken Smart presented the candidates for the degrees and Emory President, Dr. Goodrich C. White conferred the degrees. The Graduating Exercises were held in the beautiful Glenn Me morial Ampitheater. Dr. Robert D. Calkins, vice-president and di rector of the General Education Board of the Rockerfeller Founda tion was the commencement speaker. Rev. Kinard is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Kinard of New berry. POLICEMAN TAKE VACATION Three more of the city police man, one from each of the shifts, will leave on Tuesday, June 17 for two weeks vacation. They are, Virgil Huffstetler, John B. Shealy and O. H. Willingham. H. P. Franklin, J. C. Hipp and Boyd Duncan, who has been on two week’s vacation will return to their jobs on Monday, Jane 16. \ MISS MCDOWELL ACCEPTS JOB WITH COUNTY BANK Miss Frances McDowell, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Mc Dowell, has accepted a position with the Newberry County Bank, where she began her new duties Monday morning, June 9th. Miss McDowell was a member of the 1952 graduating class at Newberry High School. During high school she was employed part time by Smith’s Drug Store. Wm. S. Ramey Gets Textiles Degree At Georgia Tech William S. Ramey of Newber ry, received the bachelor of science degree in Textiles at the Georgia Institute of Technology on June 9.
