Bethel-Gar- tnany No. 2, Hartford No. 11, Helena No. 28, Beth-Eden No. 54 and portions of Johnstone No. 12 and Jalapa No. 48; and WHEREAS, the duly appointed Trustees for said Newberry School District No. 1 have peti tioned the County Board of Edu cation for an election to levy a tax of 15 mills for general school purposes in such school district, now, therefore, Pursuant to the provisions of Section 5330 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina for 1942, as amended by Act 153 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1947, relating to the method and man ner in which school districts in Newberry County may levy special taxes for school purposes, an election is hereby ordered to be held on Tuesday, August 14. 1961, to determine whether a tax levy of 16 mills shall be levied on all real and personal property within said school district for general school purposes. The election shall be conducted according to the statutory laws of the State of South Carolina governing general elections; the polls shall remain open from 8 a. m. until 6 p. m. and managers for each precinct within such school district shall be appointed by the Commissioners of Election for Newberry County as required by statute. Only such resident electors as return real or personal property for taxation and who exhibit reg istration certificates and 1950 tax receipts shall be allowed to vote. Each elector shall vote at the precinct designated on his reg istration certificate and at the same place as the General Elec tion being held the same day. RITCHIE, NOTICE OF POLITICAL MEETING A meeting of the citizens of the city is called for Friday, August 17th at 8 o’clock in the evening at the- Recorder’s room, City Hall, for the purpose of set ting in motion an organization for conducting a city primary for Mayor and an Alderman from each ward. Notice is hereby given that the General Election for County will be held at the voting precincts fixed by law in the County afore said on Tuesday, August 14, 1951, said day being Tuesday following the second Monday as prescribed by the State Constitution for the election of a member of the House of Representatives to suc ceed Frank Jordan resigned. The qualifications for suffrage are as follows: Managers of election shall re quire of every elector offering to vote at any election, before al lowing him to vote, the produc tion of his registration certificate. Before the hour fixed for open ing the polls Managers and Clerks must take and subscribe to the constitutional oath. The chairman of the Board of Managers can ad minister the oath to the other Managers and to the Clerk; a No tary Public must ^ administer the oath to the Chairman. The Mana gers elect their Chairman and Clerk. The polls shalll be opened at such voting places as shall be designated at 8 o’clock in the forenoon, and close at 6 o’clock in the afternoon of the day of election, and shall be held open during these hours without inter mission or adjournment; and the Managers shall administer to each person offering to vote that he* is qualified to vote at this election, according to the Constitution of this State, and that he has not voted during this election. The Managers .have the power to fill a vacancy, and if none of the Managers attend the titizens can appoint from among the qualified voters, the Managers who, after being duly sworn, ctdl conduct the election. At the close of the election the Managers and Clerks must pro ceed publicly to open the ballot box and count the ballots there in, and continue without adjourn ment until the same is complet ed, and make a statement of the results for each office and sign the same. Within three days thereafter the Chairman of the Board, or some one designated by the Board, must deliver to the Commissioners of Election the poll list, the box containing the ballots and written statements of the results of the election. Boozer, mm* * Spears-Snipes Miss Clara Louise Snipes of Newberry became the bride of James Ward Spears of Clinton in a lovely candlelight ceremony which took place in Bethany Lutheran Church, Newberry, on Sunday evening, July 1, 1951, at 6:00 o’clock. Rev. Horace J. C. Lindler, pastor, performed the impressive double-ring ceremony in the presence of relatives and friends. The vows were spoken before a background of white gladioli, palms and candles in ivy entwin ed, branched candelabra. Two arrangements of the same flowers were placed on the altar proper and an arrangement of white asters and gladioli was placed on the piano. A delightful program of nuptial music was furnished by Robert Creekmore of Newberry, pianist, and Miss Barbara Creekmore of Ware Shoals, solist. Traditional wedding marches were used for the processional and recessional. Mrs. Charles E. Bedenbaugh of Union was the bride’s only at tendant. The petite brunette bride was given in marriage by her father. She was lovely in a street-length dress of light blue crepe with which she wore a pink picture hat, pink gloves and pink opera pumps. She carried a white satin prayer book toppedywith a white, purple - throated orchid, showered with white satin streamers. Her only ornament was a strand of pearls, gift of the bridegroom. Immediately after the ceremony, the bridal party received in the vestibule of the church. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Snipes of Newberry and is a graduate of Newberry High School. At the time of her marriage she was employed at the Newberry Garment Company. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Spears of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Henry Coats, Frank Stewart, Mrs. J. H.
