Miss Rachel Eliza McCrackin
became the bride of William Wil
son Parr in a lovely candlelight
ceremony taking place art 8 p.m.
April 19 in the Lutheran church
of the Redeemer.
The Rev. Paul E. Monroe, Jr.,
performed the double-ring cere
mony in the presence of a large
assemblage of relatives and
friends.
The church was decorated in
traditional white and green, using
palms, white candles in branch
ed candlelabra, smilax and pedes
tal baskets of white gladioli and
spirea. The altar was bordered
with candles and smilax.
Miss Betty Baker, organist, and
William J. Hurt, soloist, furnish
ed the nuptial music.
The candles were lighted by
James N. Parr and David Parr,
brothers of the bridegroom.
Senior ushers were L. F. Fisch
er and H. W. Schumpert. The
usher-groomsmen were Thad Mc-
Cr&ckin, Jr., brother of the bride,
Callle B. Parr, Jr„ Henry L. and
James N. Parr, brothers of the
bridegroom, and Walter Summer,
all of Newberry, and Dewitt Wel-
born of Chester.
The honor attendants were
Mrs. Phil Brooks of Holly Hill
and Mrs. Jack Workman of Phil
adelphia, Pa., sisters of the bride.
Mrs. Brooks wore a strapless bal
lerina-length gown of gold bro
cade with a bolero and a bouf
fant overskirt of matching nylon
net. She carried a nosegay of
yellow Dutch iris tied with wide
gold ribbon. Mrs. Workman wore
a strapless ballerina-length gown
of aqua nylon net. She carried
a nosegay of pink and rose car
nations tied with wide aqua rib
bon.
The bridesmaids were Mrs. Le-
Roy Gross of Asheville, N: C.,
Mrs. Walter Wallace of Newber
ry, Miss Kathy Pearce of Green
ville and Mrs. Roy Kelly of Co
lumbia, cousin of the bride. Mrs.
Gross and Miss Pearce wore
strapless pink nylon net gowns
with matching stoles. Mrs. Wal
lace and Mrs. Kelly wore lime
green nylon net gowns identical
to the other attendants. All
the gowns were ballerina length
and all the bridesmaids carried
nosegays of pink carnations tied
wjth wide ribbon matching their
dresses.
The flower girls, Gwyn Mc-
Crackin of St. Petersburg, Fla.,
and Carol Blease Workman of
Philadelphia, nieces of the bride,
wore ankle length dresses of
pink nylon fashioned with off the
shoulder necklines, puffed sleeves
and full skirts. They wore mini
ature corsages of garden flowers
and scattered rose petals in the
path of the bride from white
baskets tied with white tulle
bows.
The bridegroom's father, C.
B. Parr, Sr., was best man.
The bride entered the church
with her father, who gave her

in marriage. Her blonde loveli
ness was enhanced by a wed
ding gown of white bridal satin
designed in princess sleeveless
style with a decollectage neck
line. The bodice was fastened at
the back with tiny self covered
buttons and the full sklrit ex
tended into a cathedral train. Her
finger-tip veil of illusion net fell
from a crown of shirred nylon.
She wore long kid gloves and
carried a cascade bouquet of
fern and lilies of the valley
centered with a white orchid. Her
only ornament was a seed pearl
choker.
The bride’s mother wore a
gown of lilac tissue faille and a
lavender orchid corsage.
The bridegroom’s mother wore
a gown of American Beauty chif
fon and a white gardenia corsage.
Immediately following the cer
emony a reception was held in
the Newberry Community hall.
After cutting the wedding cake
the bridal couple left for a wed
ding trip to • Georgia and Florida.
The bride changed to a navy lin
en bolero suit, with which she
wore a navy hat with white pique
trim, tavy shoes, white gloves
and navy bag.

of Newberry, was graduated from
Newberry high school and attend
ed the University of South Caro
