PROSPERITY ITEMS
The December meeting of the
Prosperity Garden Club was held
Monday afternoon with Mrs.
Eddie Pugh as hostess. Christmas
decorations were used in the
living room and hall.
Mrs. George W. Harmon led
a discussion on Christmas deco
rations and displayed a lovely
mantel decoration. Several mem
bers contributed to the discuss
ion. Miss Ethel Counts read two
Christmas selections^ a poem and
an article by Van Duke. *
For recreation Mrs. Pugh con
ducted a clever Christmas wrap
ping contest with Mrs. P. C. Sing-
ley and Mrs. G. W. Harmon as

The Prosperity P. T. A. will
meet Monday evening, December
18, at 7:30. The grammar grades
will present a Christmas pro
gram.
Misses Phyllis and Pat Wise
were hostesses to the World
Friendship Group of Girls Friday
afternoon.
Miss Gay Bowars lead the pro
gram on China. She was as
sisted by Misses Linda Hancock,
Phyllis Wise, Dot Leaphart and
Pat Wise.
For recreation Miss Pat Sing-
ley conducted a letter writing
contest.
The hostesses assisted by their
mother, Mrs. Pat Wise, served
Christmas cookies, special tea,
and salted nuts.
A Christmas pageant will be
presented at Grace Church Sun
day, December 17, at 7:30 p. m.
At a recent meeting James C.
Abrams was elected Worshipful
Master of Prosperity Lodge, No.
115 AFM. Other officers elected
to serve during the year were:

T. Young, treasurer; Elon W.
Eargle, senior deacon; Horace E.

Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Stone and
their small son, of Saluda were
weekend guests of Mrs. Stone's
parents. Dr. and Mrs. C. K.
Wheeler.
Miss Ellen Wheeler has re
turned from a several weeks’
visit with her sister, Mrs. Murray
Hughes and family in Lancaster.
Weekend guests of Mr. and
Mrs. W. A. Ballentine were Miss 1
Bertha Hayes of Laurens and
Starr, Miss Jeannine Ballentine,
teaching at Whitmire, and R. W.
Ballentine of Cameron.
Mr and Mrs. C. M. Singley
have returned from Miami, Fla.,
where they were called because
of the death of their brother-in-
law.

Bedenbaugh and their two chil
dren, Jimmy and Anne of (Laur

H. A. HICKSON
H. A. Hickson, Sr. 69, of
Lynchburg died early Friday
morning at the Newberry County
Memorial Hospital. He had been
in declining health for two years
and seriously ill for the past
few weeks.
Mr. Hickson was born and rear
ed in Lynchburg, a son of the
late Mrs. Annie Powers Hickson
who died in 1944.
Mr. Hickson was in the
mercantile business in Lynchburg
for over 40 years. He was a
former member of the Lions Club,
a director of the People's Bank
and a member of the Baptist
Church.
Funeral .services were held lapt
Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Baptist.
Church of Lynchburg with Rev.
Paul Bullington, Rev. J. B. Gas
ton and Rev. C. M. Carmichael
officiating. Interment followed
in the Presbyterian Church Ceme
tery.
He is survived by the following
children, Mrs. R. E. Cart of Co
lumbia, H. A. Jr., and John A.
Hickson of Lynchburg, Mrs. J.
Richard l^ominick, Mrs. Leroy
Wilson and Jim of Newberry, and
Herbert Hickson (5f Cherryville,
N. C.; the following brothers and
sisters, H. L., C. and W. T. Hick
son of Lynchburg, Mrs. Miona
Player of Shiloh, Mrs. Elma
Tomlinson and Mrs. Mabel Mc-
Clam of Lynchburg and 18 grand
children.

me during my long illness.
