guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde E.
Bedenbaugh.
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Hendrix
and their son. Gene visted Mr.
Hendrix’s parents in Lexington
Sunday.
Mrs. E. O. Counts is spending
the week with her daughter, Mrs.
John Schrum and family in Lin*
colton, N. C.
Mrs. Robert Meyers and her
two children, Sharon Ann and
Katherine of Leuistown, Pa. ar
rived Thursday to visit her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L.
Fellers. Mrs. Meyer’s husband
is in the U. S. Armed Forces.
Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Dunlop of
Columbia were weekend guests of
Mrs. Dunlop’s^ parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. A. Singley.
Mr. and Mrs. Jake Wheeler
and their daughter Margaret
were in Abbeville for the week
end to attend a reunion of Mrs.
Wheeler’s family. The Cochrans.
Dr. and Mrs. George W. Har
mon left Sunday to visit their
children, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace
Harmon in Dallas, Texas and
Major and Mrs. Frank Bradley
in Alberquerque, New Mexico.
They will be gone about a month.
Mrs. H. E. Counts Sr. went
to Custer Park, 111. last Friday
to accompany her daughter, Mrs.
Ray Ohlhues and her two chil
dren, Kay and Jan Ray, to
Prosperity. Mrs. Ohlhues will
stay with her mother while her
husband is serving with the
armed forces in Korea.
Mrs. C. E. Hawks has return
ed to her home in Rockville, Md.,
after a visit with her brother
and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
W. E. Hancock.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Taylor
visited their son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. C. Park
er in Columbia Sunday.
Mrs. Paul Wade and her in
fant daughter, Paula of Greer
are with Mrs. Wade’s uncle and
aunt, Dr. and Mrs. Von A.
Long. Mr. Wade was down for
the weekend.
Miss Roxdell Taylor, of the
School of Nursing at Columbia
Hospital and Rogers (Bo) Taylor
of the Union School faculty spent
the weekend with their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Taylor.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wise and
their little daughter, Judy of
Columbia were weekend guests of
Mrs. Wise’s mother, Mrs. L. J.
Fellers.
Miss Betty Sue Connelly left
Tuesday for Tallahassee, Fla. to
resume her studies at Flordia
State College.

mother, Mrs. A. D. Troutman.
On September the 8th, Mrs.
Troutman celebrated her one
hundredth birthday. Those pre
sent to help her celebrate the
very special ocassion were her
five daughters, twenty two of
her twenty three grandchildren;
forty seven great grand children,
and fifteen great, great grand
children.

Where a special switch board has been installed, capable of taking care of
twelve call boxes to be scattered at strategic points throughout the city.
Gall Boxes Have Been Installed
at the Following Locations
1. Mollohon—near corner of Glenn and Milligan Streets.
2. Mollohon—at corner of Caldwell and Milligan Streets.
3. Oakland—at Fair Avenue, just this side of mill office.
4. West End—at corner of Academy and Crosson Streets.
5. City—Just outside bus station.
6. West End—at Drayton Street, just outside back gate at Newberry Mills.
7. Between Roses's and McCrory's 5 and 10c Stores.

Five other call boxes will be arranged 1 at other points when the points of
greatest need are determined.
Customers may now receive Checker Cab Service by opening the call box
door nearest them and picking up the receiver automatically rings . the
Checker Cab telephone number 24. Someone will be at the switchboard to
take your call and to send a Checker Cab to you immediately.

At the present time our six Checker Cabs will “cover the call boxes, report
ing to the call box after each call. The cab ctriver will Jceep in touch with
the switchboard operator and in this way offer much quicker and more effi
cient service.

noon August 23, 1950 at 5:00 p.m.
The Rev. S. W. Avery, pastor of
the bride, performed the cere
mony in the presence of a few
close relatives and friends.
The bride was attractively at
tired in a white suit with white
linen accessores. Her corsage
was of white carnations and
tuberoses.
Mrs. Spearman, mother of the
bride, wore a dress of blue lace
over taffeta. Her corsage was
of white carnations.
Mrs. Long is the only daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Spear
