OPERATE CHEAPLY BY
DRIVING SLOWLY
Washington, April 5—A few
simple rules will help you run
your car more cheaply, says
Changing Times, the Kiplinger
Magazine.
Drive slowly! On a 1,000
mife trip, you can save $12.22
by averaging 45 miles an hour
instead of 55. You can save
$19.36 by driving 35 miles an
hour instead of 55.
Make repaires promptly!
Don’t try to skimp by post
poning needed repairs or re
placements. Faulty brakes, worn
tires, defective steering gear
can cost you plenty.
Keep accurate records! The
best way to check on your car’s
performance is to keep a run
ning record of all your expenses.
You might find that it costs you
more to keep your present car
than it would to buy a new one.

CRACKS DOWN ON
CIGARETTE FIRMS
Washington, April 5 — The
federal government cracked
down today on the “better-for-
yfour-health” claims of some
leading cigarettes and ordered
makers of Camels and Old Golds
to cease “false and misleading
advertising.”
In its decision, the federal
Trade commission daclared that
all cigarettes contain “nicotihe
and throat irritants.” FTS’s
“cease and desist’’ order is
final as far as the commission
is concerned but both firms
may appeal to the federal
courts.
