val Friday evening, October 7,
on the church lawn, beginning
at 7 o’clock. There will be
fun for all, and to satisfy your
hunger, you will be able to
buy candy, peanuts, hot dogs,
cold drinks, and other things.
Come out and enjoy yourself

Fall Meeting PTA
The first meeting of the fall
of the Prosperity PTA was
held Monday evening, Septem
ber 26.
The Rev. C. E. Seastruk con
ducted the devotions.
Mrs. Gurdon W. Counts, the
new president, presided over
the meeting. Supt. C. E. Hen
drix spoke of the relation be
tween the school and the PTA
and asked for the cooperation
of the patrons in building a
better school. Mr. Walter
Trammell, the new athletic di
rector, spoke of the benefits of
athletics in the school curri
culum.
The first grade won the at
tendance prize.
After the business session,
the group enjoyed an informal
get-together in the gymnasium.
Punch and cookies were served.
A large number was present.

afternoon with Mrs. H. P. Wic
ker at 3:30.

Harvey M. Montgomery will
be glad to know that he has
returned home from the Provi

There will be a discount of 1 per cent allowed on taxes paid
on or before October 31, 1949.
On and after January 1st, 1950, the penalties prescribed by law
will be imposed on unpaid taxes.
You are requested to call for your taxes by school districts in
which the property is located.
Those who had their dogs vacinated for rabies during the fiscal
year ended June 30, 1949 by a licensed Veterinarian, and expect
to be exempted from dog tax will please bring their certificate of
vaccination when appearing to pay taxes.

registration 90 days prior to the
election and keep the same

Aldermen in December.

Newberry County Registration
Certificate, has resided within
the corporate limits of the City
of Newberry for a perior of
four months, or more, prior to

the 440th Signal Aviation
Heavy Construction Battalion,
has recently returned to the
United States for discharge, ac
cording to an announcement
by Commanding Officer, Major
William H. Mundorff.
Sergeant Bishop attended
Newberry city schools, adn en
tered the service in September
1944, serving overseas during
the war with the 43rd Infantry
Division. He was awarded the
Combat Infantryman’s Badge,
Philippine Liberation Ribbon,
and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre
Ribbon with two Battle Stars.
Assigned to the 440th in May,
1948, Sergeant Bishop has been
serving with the Battalion as
the Section Foreman of Com
pany “B.”
