SALLEY, Mayor A Final Word Newberry goes to the polls Tuesday to elect officials for two years. These officials will serve un der a new type of municipal government—the City Manager plan. The type of men elected Tuesday will determine whether the City Manager will have a fair chance to do his job. I know that I have the willingness to work with him and I believe that my long business experience gives me certain ability which will be helpful. Be sure to vote next Tuesday. Whether you vote for me or someone else it is your duty and privilege to vote. Government starts at the town and cily level and we should all be interested in our government. If you do not have means of getting to the polls Tuesday, phone me and I will provide a way. I welcome your support and will do my best to merit any confidence placed in me. Respectfully, > George W. WELLING Candidate For Alderman From WARD 1 During the past two years I have been serving as one of your Com missioners of Public Works, and during that time we began a program to give Newberry an adequate and modern water and sewerage system; something which Newberry has needed very much. On October first the office of Commissioners of Public Works will merge with City Council and at the same time our city will have its first City Manager. I believe, along with hundreds of our people, that the City of Newberry is beginning a new era. I wish to continue my efforts toward the development of our city, and it is my hope and wish that with earnest and continued effort and co-operation that we can make Newberry the finest city in the State. In order to obtain that goal, and in order to attract new industries it is necessary that we all work together and improve Newberry. If I am elected as one of your Aldermen, I will: 1. Co-operate with our City manager. 2. Extend the program of water and sewerage in order that all our people will have this service. 3. Have garbage collected several times each week. Under our present system of garbage collection, we have been fortunate that we have had no serious epidemics of illness. 4. To pave more streets and sidewalks. 5. To co-operate to a greater extent with our Health department. 6. To work for a better Police department. During the war Newberry, of necessity, stood still. But since then under two very good administrations, she has gone forward and will continue to do so if given the chance. !We have the "best people of any city in the State, and I wish to contribute to the progress of such a people. With continued effort and honest and efficient management, plus our many natural resources, Newberry will have industry beating a pathway to her door. “Thank You” in advance for any consideration shown me next Tuesday, October 4th TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4 IS ELECTION DAY YOUR VOTE FOR A L Pope r".
