He finds that there are 900 tractors in the county. Of these, 738 are two row ones and 162 are one row tractors. That’s mighty nearly enough tractor power to farm the till ed land of that county if used to capacity. But they still have about three thousand mules. They must be keeping some of them just for old-time sake. FORD KURTZ IS VICE PRESIDENT OF J. C .WHITE In the 26th issue of the New York Times is a picture of Ford Kurtz and a write-up about his election as vice pres ident of J. G. White Engineer- inf Corporation, which reads as follows: “Election of Ford Kurtz as vice president in charge of en gineering for the J. G. White Engineering Corporation was announced yesterday (July 24). He is also director of the com pany and since 1949 has served as engineering manager and chief hydraulic engineer.” Mr. Kurtz, a graduate of Cornell in the class of 1907, has been with the J. G. White Corporation since 1910. Mr. Kurtz is well known in Newberry, having married a Newberry girl, Gladys Chap pell, daughter of Mrs. J. W. Chappell, and sister of assis tant postmaster. Jack Chappell. MRS. MARY K. WESSINGER Mrs. Mary A. Kinard Wes- singer, 88, died early Monday morning at the residence of her son, C. S. Wessinger, be low Prosperity. She had been in declining health for several months. Her husband, Walter Wessinger, preceded her to the grave 34 years ago. Notice To School Patrons! The Newberry City Schools will begin the 1949- ’50 session with all first grade (beginners) children reporting to their respective schools on Thursday morning, September 1st at nine o’clock. All sixth grade pupils report to the Junior High School at nine o’clock on Thursday morning, September 1st. All eighth grade pupils will report to the Senior High School at the same hour and day. All pupils who did not remove their conditions at summer school must report to their respective schools in which they were students last school ses sion and take an examination for removal of such conditions on September 1, at nine o’clock. Any pupil entering the Newberry City Schools 'for the first time (moved here since June, 1949) is urged to report for classification on Thursday morning, September 1, 1949. All pupils must have been successfully vaccinated before they can be enrolled and must be six years old by November 1, 1949 to be legally enrolled.
