CARRENTER-FISCHER WEDDING
Miss Lila Anne Carpenter
and Clarence Albert Fischer,
Jr. were married Wednesday
night, August 17th, at 8:00 p.
m. at the home of the bride s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A.
Carpenter on Calhoun street.
The ceremony was performed
by the Rev. B. H. Hodges, pas
tor of the Methodist Church of
Newberry.
The lower floor of the Car
penter home accommodated the
host of friends who gathered
for the occasion. White asters
and fern were used to decorate
all rooms, and burning white
tapers completed the arrange
ments. The vows were spoken
before an improvised altar in
the reception hall.
Music was furnished by Geo.
Whitehead, pianist, of Granite-
ville; Miss Margie Smith of
Kinards who sang “I Love
Thee” and “One Alone;” and
Miss Mazie Wilson, who sang
“Through the Years.” Prior
to the ceremony, Mr. White-
head played “Moonlight Son
ata” (Beethoven). While vows
were being said, ‘Glair de
Lune” (DeBussy) was softly
rendered, “Bridal Chorus” from
Lohengrin was used as a pro
cessional, and Mendelssohn’s
“Wedding March” for reces
sional.
Harry Arant, Jr. of Orange
burg served as best man, and
usher-groomsmen were Billy
Dowling of Darlington, Foster
Theiling of Orangeburg, Forest
Carpenter, brother of the bride,
and Charles Pruitt.
Preceding the wedding party
down the stairway were little
Misses Carol Hall of Elloree,
cousin of the groom, and Kathy
Wilson of Concord, N. C., cou
sin of the bride. They released
the white satin ribbon barrier
at the foot of the stairs, and
from there secured the old
fashionru nosegays of white
asters which they carried dur
ing the ceremony. Their cos
tumes were of white organdy
with dark green sashes.
Bridesmaids were Katharine
Kirkland, Cynthia Dominick
and Evelyn Leavell, all of New
berry, and Alta P. Cunningham
of Greer, cousin of the bride.
Their dresses were made of
dark green net worn over
matching taffeta. The full net
skirts featured white pique
band inserts, and the bodice
was fashioned with high neck
line, small Peter Pan collars
and short sleeves. Their bou
quets of white asters were tied
with long white satin ribbon.
The bride chose as her ma
tron of honor, Mrs. Frank
Weeks of Lone Star, cousin of
the groom. Her dress was of
lime green, made identical to
those of the bridesmaids, and
she also carried a bouquet ®f
white asters.
The lovely bride descended
the stairs alone and was met
by her father, E. A. Carpenter,
who gave her in marriage. Her
wedding dress was of white
print organdy, worn over white
satin, and was made with a
high neckline and Peter Pan
collar, long sleeves and a very
narrow skirt with an over-
draped train. From a braid
of white organdy rope worn in
her hair fell a veil of illusion.
She carried a white leather
Bible covered with a small
spray of gardenias. The Bible
was a gift of the bride’s ma
ternal grandmother, Mrs. Min
nie Cunningham of Greer.
She was escortea to me altar
and joined there by the groom,
and the double ring ceremony
was completed before the pic
turesque setting of white asters
and white candles.
Mra Carpenter, mother of
the bride, wore a magnolia
white dinner dress with a cor
sage of red roses. The groom’s
mother, Mrs. C. A. Fischer, was
attired in green crepe. Her
corsage was of white roses.
Following the wedding recep
tion, the couple left for a wed
ding trip, after which they will
reside in Columbia. For trav
eling Mrs. Fischer wore a suit
of toast brown file with white
pique accessories.
Mrs. Fischer, one of New
berry’s loveliest young ladies,
is the only daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. E. A. Carpenter. She
is a graduate of Newberry High
School, and attended Ward-
Belmont College at Nashville,
Tennessee and Newberry Col
lege.
Mr. Fischer, son of Mr. and
Mrs. C. A. Fischer, Sr. of
Orangeburg, is a graduate of
Orangeburg High School and
attended the University of
South Carolina where he is a
member of Sigma Alpha Epsi
lon fraternity. He served in
the Air Forces during the re
cent war and was graduated
last June from Newberry Col
lege. He will enter the School
of Pharmacy at the University
of South Carolina this fall.
