PAGE EIGflT CARRENTER-FISCHER WEDDING Miss Lila Anne Carpenter and Clarence Albert Fischer, Jr. were married Wednesday night, August 17th, at 8:00 p. m. at the home of the bride s parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Carpenter on Calhoun street. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. B. H. Hodges, pas tor of the Methodist Church of Newberry. The lower floor of the Car penter home accommodated the host of friends who gathered for the occasion. White asters and fern were used to decorate all rooms, and burning white tapers completed the arrange ments. The vows were spoken before an improvised altar in the reception hall. Music was furnished by Geo. Whitehead, pianist, of Granite- ville; Miss Margie Smith of Kinards who sang “I Love Thee” and “One Alone;” and Miss Mazie Wilson, who sang “Through the Years.” Prior to the ceremony, Mr. White- head played “Moonlight Son ata” (Beethoven). While vows were being said, ‘Glair de Lune” (DeBussy) was softly rendered, “Bridal Chorus” from Lohengrin was used as a pro cessional, and Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” for reces sional. Harry Arant, Jr. of Orange burg served as best man, and usher-groomsmen were Billy Dowling of Darlington, Foster Theiling of Orangeburg, Forest Carpenter, brother of the bride, and Charles Pruitt. Preceding the wedding party down the stairway were little Misses Carol Hall of Elloree, cousin of the groom, and Kathy Wilson of Concord, N. C., cou sin of the bride. They released the white satin ribbon barrier at the foot of the stairs, and from there secured the old fashionru nosegays of white asters which they carried dur ing the ceremony. Their cos tumes were of white organdy with dark green sashes. Bridesmaids were Katharine Kirkland, Cynthia Dominick and Evelyn Leavell, all of New berry, and Alta P. The Bible was a gift of the bride’s ma ternal grandmother, Mrs. Min nie Cunningham of Greer. She was escortea to me altar and joined there by the groom, and the double ring ceremony was completed before the pic turesque setting of white asters and white candles.
