ing the period of March 28 to
April 1, 1949, or shortly there
after.
Special first-trip and cancel
lation stamps will be pro-
•vided. Collectors desiring first-
trip cancellations should send
their covers properly prepared
with postage prepaid and ready
for mailing, to the postmaster
at terminal cities of th e route
from which first-trip cancella
tions are desired. A clear
space not less than 2V4 by 2%
inches to the left on the ad
dress side of all covers must
be left for application of Ca
chets.
All covers intended for first-
trip cancellations should be in
the hands of postmasters at an
early date, and not later than
March 26, 1949. Covers re
ceived after March 26, 1949,
will be returned to sender and
will not be given first-trip
treatment.
Newberry is fortunate in get
ting this mail service because
there are only 30-odd other
highway post offices in the
United States.

MRS. MINNIE DOWD
Mlrs. Minnie Ada Lake Dowd,
widow of the late R. E. Dowd
died at her home in the Mt.
Tabor section of the county
late Monday night. She had
been in declining health for
several years.
She was the daughter of the
late John Wesley and Mary
Cannon Lake and was born,
reared and spent her entire
life near Little Mountain. Mrs.
Dowd was a devoted member
of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church.
Her husband died eight years
ago.
Funeral services were held
Wbdnesday afternoon at 3
o’clock from Mt. Tabor Lu
theran Church with the Rev.
E. B. Heidt in charge, assisted
by Dr. J. B. Harman and Dr.
A. L. Gunter. Interment fol
lowed in the church cemetery.
She is survived by the fol
lowing children: Wilbur E.
and Robert Warren Dowd,
both of Prosperity; Mrs. V. J.
Derrick of Columbia, Mrs. B.
E. Boland and J. C. Dowd,
both of Prosperity", and Mrs.
C. E. Meets of Columbia; the
following brothers and sisters,
K. D. Lake of Little Mountain,
J. S. Lake of Prosperity, Mrs.
Sam Frick of Little Mountain,
and Mrs. W. L. Gaston of<Rich-
burg, 13 grandchildren and
two great grandchildren.

pion. Sectional awards of all
expense trips to the 1949 Na
tional 4-H Club Congress in
