Amick-Dominick
A marriage of cordial interest
was that of Miss Lucille Amick
of the Macedonia community
and Columbia and Wyman
Dominick of Prosperity. The
double ring ceremony was per
formed Saturday afternoon Jan
uary 14 at 3:30 in Chapin, at
the home of Rev. Luther Jeff-
coat, the bride’s pastor.
Mrs. Dominick wore a light
blue suit, brown accessories,
o and a corsage of pink camel
lias. She is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Amick
of the Macedonia community,
and graduated from the Little
Mountain High school. She
took a business course at Col
umbia Commercial college, and
before her marriage was .work
ing for the Citizens Southern
National Bank in Columbia*
Mr. Dominick is the son of
Mrs. Christine Dominick and
the late Ed Dominick. He re
ceived his education in the
Oneall High School. He is in
business in Prosperity, a mem
ber of the Dominick-Dennis
Grocery store.
After their wedding trrip
the couple are living with the
groom’s mother on McNary
street.

Crepe Myrtle Garden Club
The January meeting of the
Crepe Myrtle Garden Club was
held last Tuesday afternoon
with Mrs. C. K. Wheeler.
Mrs. Cole Wessinger read
two timely and informative ar
ticles, “How to Keep Christ
mas Plants Alive” and “How
to Stretch your Garden Dol
lars in Plants and Seed.” The
gleaner, Mrs. Elbert Shealy,
read a poem, “My New Year’s
Wish.” Mlrs. Wilbur Wessing
er conducted a scrambled word
contest with Mrs. Cole Wes
singer the prize winner.
The hostess served a palat
able salad plate with coffee.
Literary Sorosis
Mrs. Jacob S. Wheeler was
hostess to the Literary Sorosis
on Friday afternoon with nine
teen members and one guest,
Mrs. Jake Wheeler, present.
The li4tes and careers of two
musicians, Alfred Spaulding,
violinist, and Grace Moore,
Metropolitan Opera Star, were
contributed by Mrs. Elmer
Shealy and (Mrs. C. Mower
Singley.
During the social hour de
licious refreshments were serv
ed. The hostess was assisted
by her granddaughter, Marga
ret Wheeler and M!rs. Jake
Wheeler.
Masonic Lodge
The Prosperity Lodge was
host to the Ninth Masonic Dis
trict meeting on Friday eve
ning, January 14. The meet
ing was planned by District
Deputy Grand Master J. Ray
Dawkins of the Prosperity
Lodge. The high light of the
meeting was an address by
Grand Master Col. James F.
Risher of Bamberg. Past Grand
Master Henry F. Collins of Col
umbia was also a guest.
The Prosperity lodge present
ed twenty-five-year buttons to
twenty of its members, the pre
sentation being made by Grand
Master Risher. Those receiv

Mrs. W. E. Hancock enter
tained a group of teen-agers
Saturday evening, January 15,
in honor of her daughter, Lin
da, on her sixteenth birthday.
Twenty-two were present.
A number of games were
played with Beth Pugh, Anne
Hendrix, Charles Dawkins,
Ralph Adams, and Charles
Richardson winning prizes.
After the games the guests
were invited into the dining
room where the birthday cake
in pink and white centered
the table. A salad course, the
birthday cake, and punch were
served.

Has Year of Activity
And Accomplishment
The Mt. Bethel-Garmany H.D.
Club met at the schoolhouse
Tuesday afternoon with Mrs.
L. H. Folk, Mrs. Tom Crooks
and Mrs. Willie Mae Reighley
as hostesses.
Mrs. W. E. Epps had charge
of the devotionals., Fifteen
members were present.
Mrs. James Langford, gleaner
for the month, read a piece,
Ring Out. Wild Bells.” Miss
Winn discussed the “Growing
and Care of House Plants.” Re
port from the “Crop” commit
tee was given.
Mrs. Luther Folk had charge
of the recreation with Mrs.
Langford winner of the con
test.
The following is a summary
of the year’s work done by Mt.
Bethel-Garmany Club.
The following officers are
serving: President, Mrs.. Ray
mond B. Nichols; vice’ presi
dent, Mrs. Alan Oxner; treas
urer, Mrs. Minnie S. Leitzsey;
secretary, (Mrs. Claude C.
Price.
This club has a membership
of twenty-nine. All members
have taken an active part do
nating to the Red Cross, contri
buted funds for the council
room in the Memorial hospi
tal, sponsored the drive for
funds for Cancer Control, con
tributed to “Cropfc,” Pennies
to Friendship, $5.00 T. B. bond,
and money to Mrs. Summer
for remodeling of th(-' old
Court House room.
The club members have been
especially thoughtful of the
sick, the shut-ins, and those in
sorrow. Many visits were made,
cards, trays, sunshine bags and
flowers sent. They are also ac
tive in church work, serving in
many capacities in the various
denominations represented.
All families have improved
their home grounds, pastures,
terraces and orchards. A re
cent survey shows that each
home now has electricity and
electric refrigerators, five
homes painted on the outside,
seven homes painted on the irf-
side, twenty-one homes have
running water and fourteen
have bathrooms, four have elec
tric stoves, two gas stoves, one
new oil stove & one new *wood
stove; three have deep freezers,
fifteen have washing machines;
and five have telephones now
but a new telephone line is
now being built by Bell tele
phone company and when fin
ished twenty-four will have
telephones. Four rooms have
been remodeled; four new
homes built; two members,
Mrs. Kennerly and Mrs. Crooks
have built new homes, and Mrs.
Price has remodeled her home.
Three new barns built and one
new tenant house.
Club visits the County Home
carrying gifts and programs to
th e inmates.
The club has several ladies
who use to be members and
are not able to come to the
meetings now, they are sent
cards on their birthdays.
Recreation programs were
given in our club at each meet
ing and three socials held for
the community.
A notice of each club meet
ing sent to the County paper
and now a report of the meet
ing held is being sent. Our
club has been fortunate to have
our agents, Miss Counts and
Miss Winn to meet with us,
and bring some helpful talks
and demonstrations.
