NOTICE OF PUBLIC SALE OF WILBUR LANDS Immediately after the public sales on Salesday in January, 1949, the undersigned will offer for sale, to the highest bidder, at public outcry, that certain tract of land in Newberry County, State of South Caro lina, about two and one-half miles Northwest of the Town of Newberry, near the Oakland Cotton Mill, containing one hundred fifty acres, according to plat prepared by O. B. Can non, Surveyor, from survey of January 27, 1934, and bounded by lands now or formerly of W. W. Bullock, J. S. Bickley, William Shealy, the roadbed of the old Laurens Railroad which separates it from lands of Welch Wilbur, the younger, the Newberry Country Club, and by the road leading from the Town of Newberry to the Coun try Club which N separates it from lands now' or formerly of E. H. Cousins; my deed for which is recorded in Deed Book 39, at page 134. TURKEY MEN MEET AT ADAMS CAMP The South Carolina Turkey Federation held its second an nual winter meeting Monday at Adams Camp on Lake Murray near Prosperity. The industry was represented by over 50 turkey people from all over the state. Acting as host was Mr. C. B. Davis of the Charlotte office of the Armour and Com pany. The main speaker was Mr. M. D. Norton of the Atlanta office of Wilson Packing Company. According to Mr. Norton, Caro lina turkeys have just begun to be recognized on the national markets. Years to come will show the Carolina turkey be ing shipped all across the na tion. A panel discussion by Mr. C. B. Davis, Armour & Co.; Mk. W. A Berrian, Merchants Creamery; Mr. Dewitt Whit lock, Security Mills; Major H. C. Moore; and Mr. Paul Thqpi- as, stirred up a good deal of discussion, principally around marketing. It was agreed the prime need today is a good package for the dressed birds and a better processed bird to go in that package even if it cofets two cents a pound more. Gene Spearman, Phone 4901. 12-10 2tp COUNTY 4-H CLUB HOLDS MEETING SATURDAY On Saturday, Decembr 4, at 10:30 a.m. a large group of 4-H boys-and girls with their par ents and friends assembled in the County Court House for the County 4-H Achievement Day Program. The meeting wab called to order by the president, Rae- ford Nichols. The opening song was “America” followed by the 4-H Pledge. Ned Workman read scripture and Anne Lindler of fered prayer. In the business session the secretary read the minutes of the last meeting and called the roll by clubs. All clubs were represented except one. The treasurers report was next read. Dannette Wise welcomed the parents and leaders. A read ing on Christmas was rendered CHRISTMAS SPECIAL '95 No. 2210. (on Santa’s shoul der). Only o Little Down LOOMIS AUTON Loomis Auton, 63, died Tues day night at the Newberry County Hospital. He had been in declining health for several years. Born and reared in Newberry he was a son of the late Henry and Mrs. Ella Auton. He was a retired textile operator, and was a veteran of World War I. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock from Hunt Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Alvin F. Boone and the Rev. J. B. Harman conducting the service. Interment followed in Rose- mont cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mks. Bessie Duckett Auton; one son, Houseal Auton, and one daughter, Mrs. Mary ’ Etta Cop- pock, both of Newberry; two brothers, Andrews and Henry Auton, both of Newberry, and six grandchildren. Miss Counts awarded some prizes and gave special recognition to several girls. After the flag salute and the singing of “The Star Spangled Banner” the meeting adjourned.
