Mrs. Richardson is the daugh ter of Mrs. Rosa Sligh and the late James N. Sligh of the Johnstone community. She *was attired in an aqua dress with black accessories Snd wore a corsage of pink carnations. Mr. Richardson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin G. Richardson, Sr. of the Jolly Street community, and attend ed the Jolly Street School. Both are employed by the Mollohon Branch of the Kendall Mills. Upon their return front a trip to the mountains, they will reside in the Jolly Street com munity. The marriage of Miss Mar garet Simpson of Clinton and Clarence Robert Koon of Pros perity, was solemnized Satur day, Sept. 4 at 6:30 at the home of the officiating minis ter, the Rev. J. B. Harman, DD. The impressive double ring ceremony was used. Attending the marriage were Mr. and Mrs. L. V. Ringer and Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Koon. The bride, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Simpson of Clinton, wore a becoming plaid worsted dress with black accessories. She received her education in th e Clinton High School. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Koon of the Stony Hill High School. He £s engaged in farming. After a short wedding trip the couple will make their home in the Stony Hill com munity. Another marriage of inter est performed by the Rev. J. B. Harman was that of Miss Miriam Joycelyn Taylor of Newberry and Karey C. Shealy of Little Mountain and Roan oke, Va., which'took place Sat urday evening, Sept 4,#at seven o’clock in a double ring cere mony. Attending the couple were Miss Nancy Mims and Carlton G. Bowers. (Mrs. Shealy’s dress was of grey crepe with which the wore black accessories and a corsage, of white tea roses. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Taylor of 2809 Hunt street, Newberry, and attended New berry High School. Mr. Shealy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Shealy of Little Mountain High School. He served twenty months in the U. S. Navy in the recent War. Part of this time was spent in the Pacific area. He is now employed by the Esso Standard Oil Company of Roanoke, Va., where the cou ple will reside after their wed ding trip- Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harmon were their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Lowe of Colum bia. Spending the Labor Day weekend with Mrs. R. T. Pugh and their little daughter, Mary of Decatur, Ga. and MSss Kath ryn Pugh of Atlanta. Mrs. Pugh and her guests spent Saturday in Laurens with Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bedenbaugh. Mrs. Beden- baugh and her two children, Jimmy and Anne, came to Prosperity with them and were joined Sunday by Mr. Beden baugh. Miss Ellen Wheeler is vis iting her sister, Mrs. Charles Cox in Charlotte. Joe Spotts of Greenville spent part of the past week with Mrs. Sptotts at the home of her mother, Mrs. A. B. Hunt. Mrs. Jake Wheeler and her little daughter Margaret, are spending the week with her parents in Abbeville. Mrs. George H. Burch of Jacksonville, Fla. spent Sunday with Mliss Ellen Wheeler. Mrs. A. B. Hunt, Mrs. Jioe Spotts and her little son, Larry and their guest, Mrs. J. L. May, spent Sunday in Spartanburg with Mr. and Mrs. James B. Hunt. From Spartanburg Mrs. May will go to Hendersonville N. C. to visit before returning to her home in Eau Claire, Wis. Mks. Ellen Eargle of White Rock spent the past week with Mrs. Nan Whrd and J. S. Wheeler. Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Matthews of Columbia and Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Smith of Louisville, Ky. were Sunday guests of the Rev. and Mrs. J. B. Harman. Miss Marguerite Wise has re turned to Columbia after a few days visit with her sister, Mrs. B. T. Young and Mr. Young. Miss Annie Fellers left Sun day for Elizabeth City, N. C., where she is a member of the city school faculty. The Clemson contingent which left Thursday, includes James Ray Dawkins. Quay Fellers, Joe Lovelace, Bonny Ray Stock- man, Thomas A. Warren, Jr. and Richard Ross. Misses Susie and Mary Lang ford spent Tuesday in Columbia with their brother, Herbert Langford and family. Mrs. Harry Frick and Jier daughter, Harriette of Colum bia spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. E. W. Werts. Charles Frick, who had been with his grandmother for sev eral weeks, returned home with his mother. Walker Ross left last Wed nesday for Atlanta, where he will study art. Miss Betty Ross returned home this week from Ocean Drive, where she had spent the summer with her sister, Mrs. L. A. Permenter, to begin her senior year at Newberry Col lege. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Perry of Columbia and Mr. and Mrs. Mayo Creel of Hemingway were guests the past week of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Perry. All of them attended the McCartha- Bauknight wedding in Rock Hill last Thursday evening, the bride being a niece of Mrs. J. P. Perry. Mrs. Creel was a bride’s maid. Mr. and Mrs. Wi C. Barnes spent Sunday in Columbia with Mr. and Mrs. Bur Barnes. Miss Royce Bartley spent the weekend in Saluda with her perents, Mr. and Mrs R. J. Bartley. The many Prosperity friends of Bob Perry will be interested to know that he has been added to the teaching force of the Pharmacy Department of the University of S. C. for this ses sion. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beden baugh are receiving congratu lations on the birth of a daugh ter, Kathy, on August 27. Mrs. Bedenbaugh is the former Miss Ruby Boland. N. Z. Sease, Mrs. Norman Sease and baby, and Miss Catherine Sease of Columbia visited Mr. and Mrs. Edward W. Counts and two sons, Bud dy and Steve spent Sunday in Columbia with Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Brooks. Misses Grace Sease and Helen Wheeler will leave the first of next week to resume their teaching in the Columbia City Schools. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Stockman and their daughter, Magdalene, of Batesburg, spent several days of the past week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. H. Stockman. Mrs. Violet Aaron and her son, Billy, of Laurens, spent last week with her mother, Mrs. Ada Bedenbaugh and other Mrs. West Entertains For Mrs. Jas. Smith One of the delightful social events of the past week was on Wednesday afternoon when Mrs. J. Henry West charming ly entertained at her home on Calhoun street for Mrs. James M. (Harriet) ,Smith, Jr. This occasion was a linen shower preceding Harriet’s moving into her new home. After the guests arrived con tests were enjoyed, answers to miscellaneous subjects and ad vice to Harriet on “how to rear Marthe Jean,’’ her little girL At the conclusion of these, Mks. E. B. Purcell was he lucky con testant and was presented love ly madeiro napkins and a van ity set which she presented to the honoree. Mrs. Melton Wall received second prize which was also presented to the hon oree. At the conclusion of the con tests, a negro mammy in real “gullah style” brought in a large bundle and presented to the honoree. The contents re vealed a lovely assortment of household linens. The happy occasion was brought to a close with deli cious refreshments served by the hostess assisted by Miss Dare Swindler and Mrs. Ben Stewart. ' relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson and their son of Laurens spent Sunday with Mrs. Bedenbaugh Mrs. Aaron and Bill returned to Laurens with them. Mrs. J. A. Sease and Miss Grace Sease went to Clinton Sunday to see Mrs. Tom Sease and family. Miss Barbara Wheeler of Statesville, N. C. ~ spent the past week in the home of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Barnes. Mrs. S. H. Quattlebaum has returned from a month’s trip to the West Coast. She went with Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Brooks of Newberry. Miss Edith Dill spent the weekend at her home in Lan drum. Miss Miyrtle Mathis of Col umbia spent Friday night with her mother, Mrs. W. L. Mathis. Miss Fredna Wheeler has re turned to her home in States ville after a month’s visit with" her cousin, Dorothy Ann Barnes. . Miss Mary Wessinger is visit ing her sister, Mrs. Ernest Pin son, in Cross Hill. Newberry County Board of Education Mrs. Mary Suber Mrs. Mary Fiances Suber, 73, wife of Charles S. Suber and a prominent Newberry citizen, died at her home near the city early Tuesday morning, after a short illness. She Was a daughter of the late Jacob Benson and Mrs. Texanna Koon Suber, and was born in the Pomaria section of Newberry County. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and took an active part in the work of the church and also in the civic and social life of the city as long as her health permitted. She and Mr. Suber celebrated I their 50th wedding anniver-i [ sary • several years ago. ' Surviving in addition to her I husband, are one daughter, Stoney Hill School / Opens Monday Stoney Hill school will be gin its 1948-49 school session Monday morning, September! 13th at 8:30 a. m. The teachers are: Miss Rosa B. Dreher, Mrs. Tempie Fulmer, Charles E. Wise and R. H. Amick. Mrs. P. B. Mitchell; one sister, Mrs. W. E. Elmore, both of Newberry, and three grandchild ren, Mrs. L. H. Jordon of Edge- field, Mrs. L. B. Shealy .of New berry and Charles E. Mitchell of Florence. Funeral services were at 5 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the residence, conducted by the Rev. J.
