Mrs. Richardson is the daugh
ter of Mrs. Rosa Sligh and the
late James N. Sligh of the
Johnstone community. She *was
attired in an aqua dress with
black accessories Snd wore a
corsage of pink carnations.
Mr. Richardson is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin G.
Richardson, Sr. of the Jolly
Street community, and attend
ed the Jolly Street School.
Both are employed by the
Mollohon Branch of the Kendall
Mills.
Upon their return front a
trip to the mountains, they will
reside in the Jolly Street com
munity.
The marriage of Miss Mar
garet Simpson of Clinton and
Clarence Robert Koon of Pros
perity, was solemnized Satur
day, Sept. 4 at 6:30 at the
home of the officiating minis
ter, the Rev. J. B. Harman, DD.
The impressive double ring
ceremony was used.
Attending the marriage were
Mr. and Mrs. L. V. Ringer and
Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Koon.
The bride, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Simpson
of Clinton, wore a becoming
plaid worsted dress with black
accessories. She received her
education in th e Clinton High
School.
The groom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Koon of the
Stony Hill High School.
He £s engaged in farming.
After a short wedding trip
the couple will make their
home in the Stony Hill com
munity.
Another marriage of inter
est performed by the Rev. J.
B. Harman was that of Miss
Miriam Joycelyn Taylor of
Newberry and Karey C. Shealy
of Little Mountain and Roan
oke, Va., which'took place Sat
urday evening, Sept 4,#at seven
o’clock in a double ring cere
mony.
Attending the couple were
Miss Nancy Mims and Carlton
G. Bowers.
(Mrs. Shealy’s dress was of
grey crepe with which the wore
black accessories and a corsage,
of white tea roses. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.
W. Taylor of 2809 Hunt street,
Newberry, and attended New
berry High School.
Mr. Shealy is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. R. Shealy of Little
Mountain High School. He
served twenty months in the
U. S. Navy in the recent War.
Part of this time was spent in
the Pacific area.
He is now employed by the
Esso Standard Oil Company of
Roanoke, Va., where the cou
ple will reside after their wed
ding trip-

Spending the Labor Day
weekend with Mrs. R. T. Pugh
and their little daughter, Mary

ryn Pugh of Atlanta. Mrs. Pugh
and her guests spent Saturday
in Laurens with Mr. and Mrs.
J. A. Bedenbaugh. Mrs. Beden-
baugh and her two children,
Jimmy and Anne, came to
Prosperity with them and were
joined Sunday by Mr. Beden
baugh.
Miss Ellen Wheeler is vis
iting her sister, Mrs. Charles
Cox in Charlotte.
Joe Spotts of Greenville spent
part of the past week with
Mrs. Sptotts at the home of her
mother, Mrs. A. B. Hunt.
Mrs. Jake Wheeler and her
little daughter Margaret, are
spending the week with her
parents in Abbeville.

Jacksonville, Fla. spent Sunday
with Mliss Ellen Wheeler.

turned to Columbia after a few
days visit with her sister, Mrs.
B. T. Young and Mr. Young.
Miss Annie Fellers left Sun
day for Elizabeth City, N. C.,
where she is a member of the
city school faculty.

left Thursday, includes James
Ray Dawkins. Quay Fellers, Joe
Lovelace, Bonny Ray Stock-

a bride’s maid.

Miss Royce Bartley spent
the weekend in Saluda with

One of the delightful social
events of the past week was on
Wednesday afternoon when
Mrs. J. Henry West charming
ly entertained at her home on
Calhoun street for Mrs. James
M. (Harriet) ,Smith, Jr. This
occasion was a linen shower
preceding Harriet’s moving into
her new home.
After the guests arrived con
tests were enjoyed, answers to
miscellaneous subjects and ad
vice to Harriet on “how to rear

vealed a lovely assortment of
household linens.
The happy occasion was
brought to a close with deli
cious refreshments served by
the hostess assisted by Miss
Dare Swindler and Mrs. Ben
Stewart. '

Mrs. Mary Suber
Mrs. Mary Fiances Suber, 73,
wife of Charles S. Suber and
a prominent Newberry citizen,
died at her home near the city
early Tuesday morning, after
a short illness.
She Was a daughter of the
late Jacob Benson and Mrs.
Texanna Koon Suber, and was
born in the Pomaria section of
Newberry County.
She was a member of the
First Baptist Church and took
an active part in the work of
the church and also in the
civic and social life of the city
as long as her health permitted.
She and Mr. Suber celebrated
I their 50th wedding anniver-i
[ sary • several years ago. '
Surviving in addition to her
I husband, are one daughter,

lowed in Rosemont cemetery.
