June grazing in January!
Yes, the ground was frozen
hard. Yet it was there. And
the cows grazed it daily after
the grass thawed.
We saw it in Georgia, much
of it in South Carolina, and also
on up in North Carolina.
It is all a part of the winter
grazing awakening that’s hitting
the Southeast.
For years we have boasted
that we could have all-the-year
green grazing in this part of the
country? But we saw little of
it. The exact know-how had not
been developed. It now appears
that we were lacking in three
important particulars: the need
for lime; the need for high fer
tility, including liberal amounts
of complete fertilizer; and the
need for heavy early seedings
of the proper mixtures.
Our State pasture committee,
with Clemson’s W. H. Craven as
chairman and on which all
branches of the college and al
lied agricultural agencies and
industries have active represen
tatives, has worked those three
essentials out pretty definitely.
This has been done through
research and study. It has been
done through field trial and er-

IRWIN RESIGNS POSITION

Fred Irwin, who lias been
manager of the Newberry Dairy
Co-operative since last June,
has resigned that position effec
tive February 15. Mr. Irwin
will return to his home in Laur
ens, where he will enter the
dairy business with his father.
His successor has not yet been
named.
Mrs. Irwin, who has been
employed at the Newberry coun
ty bank, has also resigned, and
will be replaced by Mrs. Ade
laide Bodie.
While in Newberry, the Ir
wins made their home on
Boundary street in an apart
ment in the home of Mrs. Josie
McAIhany.
