A STRANGE
PROPHECY
Reprint of Old, Old Poem Fore
telling Wonders of Today,

One of the most spiritual char
acters of all history, was a wo
man known as “Mother Ship-
ton.” She lived in Engian..
over five hundred years ago, ana
was a very keen, discerning
student of the prophecies cu
the Bible. She died in 1449;
forty-three years before Colum
bus discovered America.
From her studies of the Scrip
tures, she saw what was going
to take place in the twentietn
century or in the latter days,
and wrote it in the form of a
poem.
And now a word, in uncouth
rhyme
Of what shall be in future time
For, in those wondrous far ofi
days,
The women shall adopt a craze
To dress like men and trousers
wear
And cut off all their locks of
hair.
They’ll ride astride with brazen
brow,
As witches do, on broomsticks
now
Then love shall die, and mar
riage cease
And nations wayne as babes de
crease.
Then wives shall fondle cats i
and dogs
And men shall live much the
same as hogs.

Shall ride, shall sleep, and even
talk;
And in the air men shall be
seen,
In white, in black, as well a-;
green.
A great man then shall comt
and go.
For prophecy declares it so.
In water iron then shall float
As easy as a wooden boat.
Gold shall be found in streams
and stone
In land that is as yet unknown
Water and fire shall wonders

And England shall admit a Jew

that the seal sale is now in full
force.
The deadline for reports from
Drayton street school, churches,
businesses and organizations of
the city is Friday, December 19.
You have done well in the past
sales, now we are asking you to
do your very best.

has set the 1947 Christmas Seal
Sale goal at $100,000, and of
this amount Newberry and New
berry county Negoes are asked
to raise $900. Wont you please
help us to reach our goal?
Remember the more you give
the larger the benefits received.
The following are benefits re
ceived from the sale of seals in
the 1946 sale:
1. 23 ladies completed and re
ceived certificates from the class
in Home Nursing.
2. Teei}-Age Quiz—with 6th
and 7th grades—prize money
from seal sale funds.
3. Essay contest—with high
school students.
4. Mass X-ray—April 29, 1947.
5. Nurse Ayers conducted a
clean-up demonstration with
grades 4 and 5 throughout the
county.
6. Some active cases of Tub
erculosis visited and applications
WILLIAM M. AVERY
William Madison Avery, f!6,
died suddenly Wednesday night
at the home of his son, Estes
Avery, on Milne avenue, Oak
land. He had been in declin
ing health for two years.
Mr. Avery was born and rear
ed in Georgia and lived in
Greenwood a number of years
filed to get them in the Sani-
torium.
7. Tuberculosis suspects con
tacted and visited.
The conclusion of the whole
matter is: “Let’s help ourselves
by helping others.”

ducted Friday afternoon from
the residence on Milne avenue,
with Rev. B. H. Harvey, off!

Hillcrest cemetery in Green
wood.
He was twice married, first
to Miss Sally Jointer, from
which union the following sur
vive: Mrs. W. W. Mills of New
berry and Bill Avery of Ruther-
fordton, N. C. He was later
married to Miss Willie Tram
mel, from which union the fol
lowing survive: Mrs. P. M. Rog
ers and Estes Avery, Newberry •

tion of band maneuvers at the
North Carolina-South Carolina
all-star football contest.
