MRS. ELLA B. SHEALY
Funeral services were held
Friday afternoon for Mrs. Ella
Bedenbaugh Shealy, 63, wife of
David Malcolm Shealy of Pros
perity. Mrs. Shealy passed away
Thursday morning v at the Prov
idence hospital in Columbia af
ter an illness of several weeks.
Survivors, besides her hus
band, include two sons, E. Ot
way Shealy and Otis K. Shealy,
both of Prosperity; three daugh
ters, Mrs. Allan Harmon, Mrs.
Clarence Vaughn and Miss Eli
zabeth Shealy, Prosperity; a
brother, Jacob H. Bedenbaugh;
four sisters, Mrs. Carl Dennis of
Newberry and Mrs. Tilla J. Con
nelly, Mrs. Ben Epting and Mrs.
A. K. Epting, all of Prosperity,'
and seven grandchildren.

turned to Aiken after several
days visit with home folk here.

private teacher under the G. I.
Bill? Will the government pay
the travel expenses of a veteran
so he can appear in person be
fore a rating board?
Here are the answers to these
and other questions that former
servicemen frequently ask con
tact representatives of the Vet
erans Administration:
Q. During what period must a
World War II veteran have serv
ed to become eligible for the
educational benefits of the G. I.
Bill of Rights? I
A. From Sept. 16, 1940, thru
July 25, 1947.
Q. May a veteran of World
War II study with a private
teacher and receive benefits un
der the G. I. Bill?
A. No.
Q. If I obtain a G. I. loan to go
into business and the business
fails, is the guaranteed portion
of the loan paid by the Govern
ment charged to me or is it an
outright gift to me?
A. A guaranteed loan is not
a gift to the veteran. It must be
repaid. If the Government has
to pay the guaranteed portion
of the G. I. loan to the lender,
the veteran is obligated to the
Government for the payment.
Q. I would like to appear be
fore the Veterans Administra
tion rating board to explain my
application for compensation.
Will VA pay me traveling ex
penses?
A. No. All expenses you may
incur going to or from a VA rat
ing board must be borne by you.
Q. Can a veteran of the Span
ish-American War get Govern
ment insurance because of his
service in the armed forces?
A. No.

lumbia hospital, and during the
months we were confined to our

which did so much to cheer and

flowers that brightened our
rooms; and for many, many
gifts that were so useful and for
your prayers, we give thanks.
For the ministers who fre
quently came to visit us and
for their prayers that gave us
faith and courage lifting us spi
ritually out of our despair.
Each kindness shown the boys
was especially appreciated. We
are grateful to the children who
came to visit and help entertain
them. It did so much to help
them endure their misfortune.
Since it hasn’t been possible
to thank each of you personally

Funeral services were held
Saturday for John W. Rush, 94,
who died Thursday at the Vet
erans hospital, Augusta, Ga.
The services were held at
Thompson funeral home in Co
lumbia, conducted by Rev. C. M.
Kelly. Interment was in Olym
pia cemetery.
Mr. Rush was a native of
Newberry, and a veteran of the
Spanish-American war.
