William Webb spent Sunday in

Miss Frances Webb, who is
teaching in Aiken spent the week
end' at home.
Pressley Boozer bought a new
truck. We are glad to see our
young men progressing on the
farm.
Mrs. Oscar Moore and Mrs. Ed
die Mac Knight were visiting in
our school Tuesday. Both are in
terested in the lunch program.
Mr. A. L. Dominick attended
Court in Newberry first of last
week.
Mrs. Sallie Holloway, Green
wood, was visiting in the commun
ity last week one day.
Dr. Jordan Holloway, Ware
Shoals, and family, were visiting
nere Saturday evening.
We regret very much to learn
that the O. O. Williams are moving
out of the community. They are
going to Charlotte, N. C.
Mrs. Florence Carpenter, Mrs.
Pearl Godchalg and Mrs. O. O.
Williams were shopping in Green
wood Thursday.
Mrs. L. E. Werts’ company Sun
day were her daughter, Mary Lou
and family of Johnston.
Mrs. J. E. Long’s daughter, Lu-

Council assembled,
That for the purpose of raising
revenue, and in the exercise of
the taxing power of the said Town
the following taxes are hereby
levied for the fiscal year ending
December 31st, 1947, upon all real
and personal property within the
corporate limits of the Town of
Newberry, South Carolina (except
upon such property as is exempt
from taxation under the Constitu
tion and laws of this State), upon
the valuation thereof as assessed
for taxation for State and County
purposes:
(1) That a tax of nineteen (19)
mills on each dollar’s worth of
real and personal property within
the corporate limits of the Town
of Newberry, South Carolina (ex
cept upon such property as is ex
empt from taxation under the
Constitution and laws of this
State), is hereby levied to defray
the ordinary expenses of the said
Town of Newberry, South Caro
lina, for the fiscal year ending De
cember 31st, 1947.
(2) That a tax of one-eight
(%) mill on each dollar’s worth
of real and personal property
within the corporate limits of the
Town of Newberry, South Caro
lina (except upon such property as
is exempt from taxation under the
Constitution and laws of this
State), is hereby levied for the
purpose of raising a revenue to
pay the interest and to create a
sinking fund for the bonded in
debtedness of said town for the
"Water Bonds’’ issued in the year
1909.
(3) That a tax of five-eights
(%) of a mill on each dollar’s
worth of real and personal prop
erty within the corporate limits of
the Town of Newberry, South Car
olina (except upon such property as
is exempt from taxation under the
Constitution and laws of this
State), is hereby levied for the
purpose of raising a revenue to
pay the interest on, and to create
a sinking fund for, the bonded in
debtedness of the said Town for
the "Water and Sewer Bonds”,
issued in 1909.
' (4) That a tax of four (4) mills
on each dollar’s worth of real and
personal property within the cor
porate limits of the Town of New
berry, South Carolina (except
upon such property as is exempt
from taxation under the Constitu
tion and laws of this State), is
hereby levied for the purpose of
raising a revenue to pay the in
terest on, and to create a sinking
fund for, the bonded indebtedness
of the said Town for the “Street
Improvement Bonds”, issued in the
year 1921.
(5) That tax of three (3) mill s
on each dollar’s worth of real and
personal property within the cor
porate limits of the Town of New
berry, South Carolina (except such
property as is exempt from tax
ation under the Constitution and
laws of this State), is hereby lev
ied for the purpose of raising a
revenue to pay the interest on,
and to create a sinking fund for,
the bonded indebtedness of said
Town for “Street Improvement
Bonds,” issued in the year 1925.
(6) That a tax of five-eights
(%) of a mill on each dollar’s
worth of real and personal proper-
I ty within the corporate limits of

olina (except such property as is

Constitution and laws of this
State), is hereby levied for the
purpose of raising a revenue to
pay the interest on, and to create
a sinking fund for, the bonded in
debtedness of said Town for “Wat
er Bonds”, issued in the year 1925
(7) That a tax of five-eights
(%) of a mill on each dollar’s
worth of real and personal prop
erty within the corporate limits
of the Town of Newberry, South
Carolina (except such property as
is exempt from taxation under the
Constitution and laws of this
State), is hereby levied for the
purpose of raising a revenue to
pay the interest on, and to cre
ate a sinking fund for, the bond
ed indebtedness of said Town for
“Sewer Bonds’, issued in the year
1925.
(8) That a tax of one and one-
half (1%) mills on each dollar’s
worth of real and personal prop
erty within the corporate limits
of the Town of Newberry, South
Carolina (except such property as
is exempt from taxation under the
Constitution & laws of this State),
is hereby levied for the purpose
of raising a revenue to pay the
interest op, and to create a sink
ing fund for, the bonded indebt-
ednes of said Town for “Street
improvement Bonds”, issued u
the year 1925.
(9) That a tax of three and
one-half (3%) mills On each dol
lar’s worth of real and personal
property within the corporate lim
its of the Town of Newberry,
South Carolina (except such prop
erty as is exempt from taxation
under the Constitution and laws of
this State)., is hereby levied for
the purpose of raising a revenue
to pay tne interest on, and to cre
ate a sinking fund' for, the bonded
indebtedness of said . Town for
“Water Bonds”, issued in the year
1924.
(10) That a tax of one and
one-half (1%) mills on each dol
lar’s worth of real and personal
property within the corporate lim
its of the Town of Newberry, South
Carolina (except such property as
is exempt from taxation under the
Constitution and laws of this
State), is hereby levied for the
purpose of raising a revenue to
pay the interest on, and to create
V sinking fund for, the bonded in-
'debtedness of said Town for “Fire
Department Improvement Bonds”,
issued in the year 1936.
(11) That a tax of two (2)
mills on each dollar’s worth of
real estate and personal property
within the corporate limits of the
Town of Newberry, South Carolina
(except such property as is ex
empt from taxation under the
Constitution and laws of this
State), is hereby levied for the
purpose of raising a revenue to
pay the interest on, and to create
a sinking fund for, the bonded in
debtedness of the said Town for the
“Refunding Bonds”, issued in 1939.
(12) That a tax of one (1)
mill on each dollar’s worth of real
and personal property within the
corporate limits of the Town of
Newberry, South Carolina (except
such property as is exempt from
taxation under the Constitution and
laws of this State), is hereby lev
ied for the purpose of raising a
revenue to pay the interest on, and
to create a sinking fund for, the
bonded indebtedness of the said
Town for the “Refunding Bonds”,
issued in 1941.
(13) That a tax of one and one-
half (1%) mills on each dollar’s
worth of real and personal prop
erty within the corporate limits
of the Town of Newberry, South
Carolina (except such property as
i s exempt from taxation under the
Constitution and laws of this
State), is hereby levied for the
purpose of raising a revenue to
pay the interest on, and to create
a sinking fund for, the bonded in
debtedness of the said Town for
the “Refunding Bonds”, issued in
1945.
That all taxes herein levied shall
be paid to the said Town of New
berry, South Carolina, in good and
lawrful money of the United States
of America between the first day
of October, 1947, and the fifteenth
day of December, 1947, and on any
tax not paid on, or before, Decem
ber 15th, 1947, a penalty of one
per cent, thereof shall he added
and collected until December 31st,
1947, and on any tax not paid by
said time, an additional penalty
of one per cent, shall be added
and collected until January 31st,
1948, and on any tax not paid on
said date, an additional penalty of
eight p^T cent, shall be added; and
for any tax not paid on or before
January 31st, 1948, execution will
be issued according to law for the
collection of same, including all
fines and penalties.

corporate seal of the Town of
Newberry, South Carolina, this
23rd day of September, A.D., 1947.

sembled, and by authority of the
same;
SECTION 1. That the Clerk
& Treasurer of the Town of New
berry, S. C., in the collection of
taxes of the Town of Newberry,
assessed for and during the year
1947, be, and he is hereby, author
ized to allow to all taxpayers of
the Town of Newberry, S. C., a
discount of one per cent, on all
taxes paid during the month of
October, 1947, and to allow a dis
count of one-half of one per cent,
on all taxes paid said Town during
the month of November, 1947.
SECTION 2. This ordinance
shall take effect immediately upon
its approval.

assembled under the corporate seal
of the Town of Newberry, S. C., on
the 23rd day of September, A.D.,
1947.
