Volunteer Firemen
Given Barbecue
Volunteer firemen, their wives
and guests were given a barbe
cue Friday night by the New
berry Fire Department, in the
firemen’s dining room.
Members of the city council,
members-elect of the council,
and honorary members of the
fire department were guests at
the occasion.
The barbecue, donattd by T.
O. Stewart, was cooked by Gene
Shealy and members of the fire
department.
Approximately 85 guests en
joyed the delicious diner.

Parties Compliment
Bride-Elect of Week
A number of lovely parties
were given in honor of Miss
Mary Catherine Renwick, whose
marriage to Dayton Everette
Hardwick took place last Friday.
On Tuesday, Mr. E. H. Moore
and Mrs. Joe Waters entertain
ed with a- miscellaneous shower.
The Moore home was beautiful
ly decorated with assorted sum
mer flowers and white candles.
The honoree’s place was marked
with a corsage of white carna
tions.
During the afternoon, games
and contests were enjoyed, af
ter which the guesffe were in
vited into the dining room to
watch the honoree open the
many lovely gifts which she re
ceived. The gift of the hostesses
was an addition to her trous
seau. Green and white block
ice cream and angel food cake
was served.
Mrs. E. G. Able invited a
number of the bride-elect’s
friends to drop in on Thursday
morning, at her home on Mc-
Caughrin Avenue. The house
was attractively decorated for
the occasion. In the dining
room, guests were served sand
wiches, ham biscuits, cheese
straws, cookies and soft drinks.
Mrs. Able presented Miss Ren
wick a piece of crystal in her
chosen pattern.
Following the rehearsal on
Thursday evening,. Mr. and Mrs.
George Ruff entertained the
wedding party and out of town
guests at their home on E. Main
street. Assisting in entertaining
and serving were Mrs. John Ruff
Mrs. Charlie Ruff, and Mrs. S.
W. Brown, Sr.
Misses Frances Ruff and Eli
zabeth Renwick gave a luncheon
complimenting the bride-elect on
Friday afternoon. A delicious
three-course luncheon was serv
ed from the attractively appoint
ed dining table. Covers were
laid for eleven guests, including
the wedding attendants, the
bride’s aunt, Mrs. George Ruff;
the groom’s mother, Mrs. D. E.
Hardwick, and the groom’s sis
ter, Miss Sara Hardwick.
Miss Renwick was presented a
piece of china in her chosen pat
tern.
