Mrs. Lonnie Graham returned
to her home Wednesday from
Providence hospital in Columbia,
where she underwent a major
operation. She was a patient
there three weeks.

The marriage of Helen Mahaff-
ey Macon to Major Denton C.
Rountree was solemnized in the
parlors of the First Baptist
church of Columbia, with Dr. W.
S. Brooke. officiating. Miss
Harlowe Mahaffey, sister of the
bride, was the only attendant.
Following a wedding trip to
the mountains. Major and Mrs.
Rountree will reside in Charles
ton, where he is military instruc
tor at The Citadel.
(Mrs. Rountree is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Lewis
Mahaffey of Laurens.
Major Rountree is the son of
Mrs. J. Aubrey Estes. He was
graduated from The Citadel in
1938 and served four years in the
Pacific theater during the war.
Miss Luellen Senn
Has Birthday Party *
Miss Luellen Senn, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence W. Senn
of Rock Hill, was honored with
a birthday party given by her
grandmother, Mrs. A. T. Neely,
on July 28. Luellen was six
years old.
Fifteen children were invited
to the Neely home to help cele
brate the occasion. Mrs. Duncan
Johnson, Jr., assisted the hostess
in entertainment during the
afternoon. The children enjoyed
a variety of games.
The hostess served ice cream
and the birthday cake, which
was cut by the honoree.

Voters Of
Ward 4
Six years ago I asked you to
elect me as Alderman for our
Ward and while I came a few
votes short of winning, I have,
never - the - less, always been
thankful for your support at
that time.
The motives which prompted
mo to otter for the office six
years ago are the same which
prompt me today. I want to be
of service to my Ward and to my
city. I will always try to apply
to the office the same diligence
and hard work that I do to my
own private business. I will
do my beat to keep free of all
prejudices so lhaf I can work in
harmony with all members of
council, for only through team
work can we accomplish any
thing worth-while.
I am not a politician and know
little of the ways of politics. I
am a plain business man and
with the patronage of many of
you. have been reasonably suc
cessful in a business way. I am
sure that my business experience,
which has come in the school of
hard knocks, will pay dividends
for you if I am elected.
I was born and reared in New
berry, 41 years of age, and a
graduate of our city schools. I
own real and personal properly
and know' something about the
tax burden.
I will greatly appreciate your
support on August 12th and I
assure you that you will never
have cause to regret having giv
en me your vote. i

shower in honor of Miss Margery
Paysinger, who will become the
bride of Kibler Williamson next
Tuesday.
Three tables were set in the
living room and sun porch of
the Hayes home, which was dec
orated with gladioli and other
summer flowers.
Miss Gloria Summer took high
score prize, which she presented
to Miss Paysinger, who also won
bingo prize. The hostess’ gift to
the honor guest was a sugar and
cream set in her chosen crystal.
A fourth table was set for
Mrs. S. C. Paysinger and Mrs.
J. L. Daniel, mother and grand
mother of the bride-elect, Mrs.
T. Roy Summer, Jr., and Mrs.
Rosabelle Thompson. A salad
course was served by the hostess
and her mother, Mrs. Fred
Hayes.

singer was presented with many
lovely kitchen gifts.
Birthday Party
For 4-Year Old
Little Miss Margaret McCaugh-
rin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Albert McCaughrin, was honored
last Saturday with a party given
by her mother in celebration of
her fourth birthday anniversary.
Thirty-five children were in
vited to enjoy the party, which
was held in the playground be
hind the McCaughrin home.
Balloons were used to decorate
the playground.
Games were conducted during
the afternoon by Miss Eleanor
Cathcart, Mrs. McCaughrin’s sis
ter, from Anderson. Favors pre
sented to the children were
French hats for the girls, soldier
hats for the boys.
A birthday cake was cut by
the honoree, and ice cream, can
dy, and cookies were served to
the guests.
Margaret, who is a lovely
blonde, was attired in an ice
blue organdy dress.
Spearman-Reese
In a simple but beautiful cer
emony at the parsonage of the
Epting-Lewis Memorial Metho
dist church, Miss Marion Faye
Reese became the bride of Wil
liam Elbert Spearman, Jr., on
Saturday, July 19, at five o’clock.
The ring ceremony was per
formed by Rev. B. H. Harvey.
Miss Florence Harvey, pianist,
rendered a program of nuptial
music before and during the
ceremony.
The bride, a charming bru
nette, was attractively attired in
a white butcher linen suit,
trimmed with lace. Her corsage
was of white orchids with pur
ple hearts.
Mrs. Spearman, the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Reese of
Pomaria, is a graduate of New
berry high school. For the past
several years she has been em
ployed at Kohn’s store in New
berry.
The bridegroom, son of Mr.
and Mrs. W. E. Spearman, Sr.,
of Chappells, is a graduate of
Ninety Six High school. He spent
four years with the U. S. Army
overseas, and is now connected
with the Buzzard Roost power
plant at Chappells.
