residence of the officiating mini-
ter, the Rev. Julian B. Harman,
D.D., 1004 Boundary street, New
berry, in the presence of a few
witnesses.
Mrs. Minor is a daughter of
Mr. J. A. McMeekin of Newberry
and the late Mrs. Alice Brooks
McMeekin. She was beautifully
attired in a dusty rose dress
with navy accessories and a car
nation corsage. She is employed
in the Newberry cotton mills.
Mr. Minor is a son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. P. Minor of Nev/berry.
He served over 38 months in the
Army in World War II, the most
of the time in the Pacific area.
He is one of the employees of
the Newberry cotton mill manu
facturing company. They will
have their residence in Newbery.

BIRTH OF A SON
Mr. and Mrs. Hal Kohn, Jr.,
are receiving congratulations
from their many friends upon
the arrival of a nine and one-half
pound son, Alan Spence, born
at the Newberry hospital, Thurs
day, March 6th. The Kohns
have a daughter, Carol, who is
nearly three years of age.
Mrs. Kohn, the former Char
lotte Schroder, daughter of Jul
ius E. Schroder, a member of
the Board of Newberry college,
and Mrs. Schroder of Charleston,
and son are doing nicely.

the birth of a daughter, Mary
Jane, bom March first, at the
Lee Memorial Hospital in Mar
ion, Va. Mrs. Cassell is the for

Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Morgan

Holiday In Bermuda
Planned By Students
Miss Margery Pays inger,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. C.
Paysinger, a member of the
junior class at Randolph-Macon
College, Lynchburg, Va., accom
panied by twelve of her school
mates, will spend a couple of
weeks during the spring holi
days on a trip to Bermuda.
The young ladies who will be
chaperoned by the Dean of Stu
dents at Randolph-Macon, will
leave Baltimore by plane for
Bermuda on March 19. They
are planning to visit several in
teresting points before returning
to their class room at Randolph-
Macon, about the ninth of April.
Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Dickert
and Mr. and Mrs. Forest Lomin-
ack were recent visitors in the
home of the former’s son, and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Herman Dickert and family in
Atlanta, Ga.
Mrs. R. A. Goodman is spend
ing a while with her daughter,
Mrs. Torn P. Cassell and family
in Rural Rereat, Va.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ringer and
son, Douglas, of Columbia were
weekend visitors in the home of
Mr. Ringer’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. B P. Ringer on Chapman
street.
Miss Dot Smith spent the past
weekend in Columbia with Miss
Dot Aull, who makes her home
with Mrs. DeBose on Heyward
street.
Junior Jumper and friend Don
Duncan, both members of the
Marine corps, stationed at Cher
ry Point, N. C., were weekend
visitors in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. E. A. Jumper.
R. P. Fair has returned to his
home at 1220 Chapman street
after spending the winter
months in Little Rock, Ark.
Mrs. W. C. Bynum, a member
of the high school faculty in
Georgetown, is expected to
spend this weekend in Newber
ry with her daughter and son-in-
law, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Clary on
McKibben street, after attending
the teachers meeting in Colum
bia.
Miss Elizabeth White, assist
ant supervisor of the Shriners
hospital in Greenville, was a
weekend visitor in the home of
her mother, Mrs. J. W. White on
Caldwell street.
The friends of C. E. Saint-
Amand will be sorry to hear that
he has been confined to his
home on Harper street this week
with a seige of flu.

daughter, Miss Mary Livingston,
returned to their home on Sum
mer street last Wednesday af
ter spending several weeks in
Florence in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Clyde Taylor.
Mrs. J. N. McCaughrin has
returned to her home on Cal
houn street, after several week’s
stay in Spartanburg with her
daughter, Mrs. B. R. Pickens and
family.
Clyde Taylor, son-in-law of
Mrs. D. A. Livingston, Summer
street, who underwent a major
operation on his face in the Me
morial hospital in New York
three weeks ago, is reported to
be doing nicely and was able to
return to his home in Florence
last Sunday.
His wife, the former Margaret
Livingston and her sister, Miss
Mary Livingston remained in
New York and visited relatives
while Mr. Taylor was a patient
in the hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Haltiwang-
er of Wilmington, N. C., and Mr.
Haltiwanger’s sister, Mrs. J. W.
Luther of Columbia, are spend
ing a few days in the home of
Mrs. Haltiwanger’s sister, Mrs.
Nell Browning on Wilson street,
and other relatives in the city.

day night to spend the rest of
the week in the home of her
mother, Mrs. Nell Browning on

Mrs. Clem I. Youmans spent
from last Wednesday until Mon
day of this week in Washington,
D. C., in the home of Dr. and
Mrs. Rives Chalmers. Dr. and
Mrs. Chalmers’ little two-year-
old daughter, Alice Gordon
Chalmers returned to Newberry
with her aunt, Mrs. Youmans,
for a couple of weeks visit.

Is ‘Superior’ Student

Newberry was recently named
to the Dean’s list at Mary Wash
ington College of the University
of Virginia for her high scholas
tic attainment during the first
semester of the current college
year.

£. W. Harrison, Sr., 68, died
Wednesday morning at Newber
ry county hospital after an ill
ness of several weeks.
Mr. Harrison was a native of
North Carolina but had made his
home in Newberry for the past
25 years. He had been connected
with Vance and Dwiggins Lum
ber company for the past 40
years. He was a son of the late
William and Betty Knight Har
rison, Kemersville, N. C.
Funeral services were held
yesterday (Thursday) morning
at 11 o’clock from his residence
with Rev. V. McKoy Marlowe
conducting the service.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Maggie Preston Harrison
and the following children: Mrs.
W. C. Lever, Charleston; Mrs.
Edwin Reames, Mis.- Barbara
Harrison, Miss Betty Harrison,
all of Newberry; Mrs. A. D.
Wertz, Saluda; Mrs. R. E. Baker,
Key West, Fla.; W. H. Harrison,
Charleston and Steven Harrison,
Asheville, N. C.; a sister, Mrs.
Mattie Osborne, Belews Creek,
