Miss Alice Wicker became the
bride of Robert Coleman Blair
lieirtenant. United States Army.
Friday, afternoon, December 27th
at 4:30 o’clock in a beautiful but
simple ceremony at the home of
the bride on Nance street. The Rev
Julian B. Harman, D.D., perform
ed the ring ceremony in the pres
ence of the immediate families and
a few close friends.
Smilax and white cathedral ta
pers in floor candelabra formed
the scene in the living room for
the marriage vows. Greenery and
candles Were used elsewhere in the
home.
Mrs. E. B. Setzter, pianist, play
ed “Believe Me of All Those En
dearing Young Charms”, “Drink
To* Me Only With Thine Eyes”,
“Love’s Old Sweet Song”, Tram-
merie”, and the usual wedding
marches.
Mrs. William Wicker, sister-in-
law of the bride, of Richmond, Va.,
was matron-of-honor, and only at
tendant. She wore a pink net
dress made with inserts of wide
i«.ee on tne shoulder, sweet
heart neck, short puffed sleeves
and the full skirt featured a band
of black lace at the hipline. She
carried an arm bouquet of pink car
nations tied with wide satin ribbon
and wore a short pink net veil at
tached to a cornet of carnations in
her hair.
The lovely bride descended the
stairway and was met by her fath
er by whom she was given in mar
riage. Her dress of brocaded faille
was made with a fitted bodice,
sweetheart neck, long sleeves with
points over the hands and a full
skirt which ended in a circular

The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Pope L. Wicker, Sr., and
is a graduate of Newberry high
school and is now a senior at New-
oerry college.
Lietenant Blair, son of Mr. and
Mrs. A. F. Blair of Blairs, is a
graduate of Monticello high school
and of Clemson college in the class
of 1943. He has been in the army
for the past three and a half
years and is now stationed at Fort
Benning, Ga.
For traveling the bride wore a
two-piece black suit with black
accessories, a grey top coat and a
corsage of pink carnations.

Mrs. J. R. North, Jr., and son,
Rex III, who have been making
their home here with Mrs. North’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie
Ruff for the past several months,
have joined Mr. North in Columbia
and are now making their home at

Beaty-Kyzer
A marriage of much interest to
their many friends was that of Miss
Elizabeth Kyzer to Kenneth Irving
Beaty on December 21, at the home
of the officiating miinster, the Rev.
Julian B. Harman, D.D., 1004
Boundary street. The double ring
ceremony was used.
Mrs. Beaty attended the schools
of Newberry and during the war
she served our country as one of
the WAVES. She is a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Kyzer of 2811
Clyde avenue, Newberry. She was
beautifully attired in a light green
gabardine dress with black acces
sories and a corsage of rose buds
and orchids.
Mr. Beaty is a son of Mr. and
Mrs. R. L. Beaty of 1211 Milligen
street, Newberry. He attendea
the schools of Newberry and serv
ed in the U. S. Navy three and one-
half years, the most of this time
was in the Pacific area.
They are going to have their
residence on Cline street.
Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Sligh during the holidays were
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Boozer and
Mrs. Arlie Buff of West Columbia.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray J. Nichols, who
have been with Mr. and Mrs. Clar
ence Sligh have moved to Orange
burg where they will make their
home.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sligh
were called Saturday night to
Greenwood to be with Mrs. Sligh’s
sister, Mrs. E. C. Malone, who is
seriously ill in the hospital there.
Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Armfield, Sr.,
left Tuesday afternoon for a visit
with their daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel H. McHargue,
at their home, “Pinecrest” .in
Statesville, N. C.
Mrs. Verona Dominick is spend
ing a while in Spartanburg in the
home of her daughter and son-in-
law, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy DeHart.
LESLIE JEAN GREGORY
Leslie Jean Gregory, infant
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David
Gregory, Jr., died Saturday after
noon at the Whitmire Medical Cen
ter.
Funeral services were held Sun
day afternoon from the graveside
in Whitmire cemetery, with the
Rev. C. T. Bryant in charge.
The child is survived by her par
ents; her maternal grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Smith and her
paternal grandparendt, Mr. and
Mrs. David Gregory, Sr.

Miss Sara Nell Kirkland became
the bride of Mr. James Morse in a
wedding ceremony performed on
December 21, at the residence of
the officiating minister, the Rev.
Julian B. Harman, D.D., 1004
Boundary street, in the presence of
a number of relatives and friends.
The ring ceremony was used.
Mrs. Morse is a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. O. M. Kirkland, route 2,
Saluda. She attended Saluda
high school and has been employed
by the Kursal manufacturing com
pany, Saluda. Her dress was a
olue gabardine with black acces
sories and corsage of Christmas
colors.
Mr. Morse is a son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Morse of Pomaria. He
is employed in the Newberry cot
ton mills. Their residence will be
Pomaria.

LEGION AUXILIARY MEETS
WITH MRS. SLOAN CHAPMAN
The American Legion Auxiliary
met January 2, at the home of Mrs.
Sloan Chapman. Mrs. H. B. Wil
son, Mrs. C. T. Hallman, Mrs. Ma
mie L. DeVore were assistant host
esses.
The president, Mrs. C. A. Dufford
conducted the opening ritual and
called for reports of officers and
committees.
The Newberry American Legion
Auxiliary has won the distinction
of gaining more World War 11
members than any other unit in
Legion district No. 5.
Mrs. Gumie Summer, chairman
of the legislative committee, made
a report on the American Legion's
nine-point legislative program. The
unit was asked to support the pro
gram.
Mrs. Rion McKissick, department
president, will attend the meeting
of the auxiliary on February sixth.
This meeting will be held at the
World War Memorial building at
7:30 p. m.
At the conclusion of the meeting
the hostesses served a sweet course.
