THE NEWBERRY SUN Purely PERSONAL Mrs. Edwin D. Lowthian and two children, Walter and Nancy, have returned to their home in Balti more, Md., after spending two months here in the home of Mrs. Lowthain’s parents. Dr. and Mrs. R. M. Kennedy on Harper street. DEBUTANTE DANCE HONORS SIX NEWBERRY GIRLS (Continued from inside page) Serving punch throughout the ev ening were Misses Dorothy French, Delora Fant, Pierriene Baker, Bet ty Floyd, and Betty Knowlton. Dancing followed immediately after supper with three no-breaks. Music for the occasion was furn ished by Rufus Suit and his orch estra. The dance to which two hundred guests were invited included the young college set and a number of older friends of the parents from Newberry and throughout the state. Among the out-of-town guests were: Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Gray- don of Columbia; Miss Madge Graydon, a debutante at the recent Assembly Ball in Columbia; Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Knowlton and daughter, Miss Betty Knowlton of Columbia; Congressman - Elect Bryan Dorn, Greenwood; William Castine, At lanta, Ga.; Roy Finney, Spartan burg; Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Baker, Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Baker, Clinton; Henry Wilkes, Jr., Clinton; Asbury Bedenbaugh, Pros perity; William Dicus, Clinton; J. T. Crawford and John Lake of Whit mire. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Floyd enter tained with a drop-in party from 8 o’clock to 9 o’clock prior to the dance. The Floyd home was. appro priately decorated and a delicious supper was served the debutantes and their escorts from prettily appointed table. Guests of Mrs. Annie B. Sligh during the holidays were Mr. and Mrs. Everette Kirby and Miss Mary Burdette of Washington, D. C., Lt. Augustas Robins and Capt. Jennie Jerkensen of Camp Gordon, Augusta, Ga., Mr. Ernest Sechrest of Greenville and Mr. and Mrs. James Faulkner and daughter of Ninety-Six. Prof, and Mrs. Marcus Caldwell of Erskine College. Due West, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sligh of Green wood and Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Mc Intosh of Kingstree, were visitors during the Christmas holidays in the home of Miss Sara Caldwell on E. Main street. Mrs. W .R. Reid, Sr., and grand daughter ,Miss Helen Hardaker of Tallahassee, Florida, spent the Christmas holidays in the city with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Floyd left Saturday for Montgomery, Ala bama, where they were joined by Mrs. Floyd’s brother, Paul Smith and Mrs. Smith to attend the Su gar Bowl football game in New Or leans New Year’s Day. Lewis Floyd of Augusta, Ga., spent several days during the Yule- tide here in the home of his brother, R. C. Floyd and family on Mayer avenue. Daniel of Colum bia spent several days during the Christmas season here with Dr. Daniel’s mother, Mrs. J. L. Daniel on Boundary street. Miss Margaret Wood of Augusta, Ga., was a holiday guest in the home of Miss Frances Webb at Chappells. Miss Doris Schumpert, a student at the University of South Carolina, spent the Christmas season here in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schumpert on Bound ary street. Mr. and Mrs. D. H. McHargue of Statesville, N. C., and Miss Ruth Doris Armfield, of Atlanta, Ga., were visitors over Christmas in the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Armfield at Gildercrest. Long (Susie Sligh) left about the middle of the week for Ann Arbor, Michigan, where they will make their home. Mrs. G. F. Wearn and son, Wilson Wearn spent the Christmas season in Birmingham, Ala., with Dr. and Mrs. R. B. Wearn and family. Brian Summer, Zeke Crump and Melvin Jackson, spent the Christ mas holidays on a tour of Balti more, Washington and points in Virginia. Mrs. W. W. Bennett (Faye Cath ey), returned to her home on Har per street last Thursday from Baldwin Memorial hospital in Mil- lidgeville, Ga., where she under went a major operation on Mon day, December 9.
