Rev. and Mrs. A. D. Woodle of
McRea, Ga., are visiting in the home
of their daughter, Mrs. A. W. Mur
ray on Johnstone street. They
will also visit Reverand Woodle’s
brother, Alex Woodle in Green
wood, who is ill in a hospital there.
Mrs. Henry Niles of Camden,
spent Armistice Day with her
mother, Mrs. J. R. Green on Har
per street. While in the city Mrs.
Niles visited her son, Henry Niles,
a student at Newberry college.

Mrs. Harry Stone, Jr., and small
son, Harry, left Wednesday for
their home in Clarksdale, Miss., af
ter an extended visit here in the
home of Mrs. Stone’s mother-in-law,
Mrs. H. O. Stone on Caldwell
street. They went by plane from
Columbia to Memphis, Tenn., where
they were met by Mr. Stone.
Mrs. Claude Hornsby and child
ren returned to their home in Co
lumbia Saturday after several days
visit with her mother, Mrs. W. W.
Eddy on Purcell . street. She was
accompanied to Columbia by her
mother and Mrs. Sims Tompkins for
the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Ellisor Adams of
Andeison spent Tuesday night in
the city with relatives, enroute to
Columbia where Mr. Adams enter
ed the Veteran’s hospital Wednes
day for treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. McCrackin
spent a couple of days last week in
Holly Hill with their daughter, Mrs.
Phil Brooks and family.
Caldwell Sims of Union was a
weekend visitor in the home of Mr.
and Mrs. J. T. McCrackin on College
street.
Mrs. Pink Smith of Columbia was
a recent visitor in the home of her
sister, Mrs. J. T. McCrackin on
College street. *
Mrs. Lucille Copelan and daugh
ters, Mary and Lulu, of Batesburg
were weekend visitors in the home
of Mrs. Copelan’s counsin, Miss Le-
nore Broaddus and Miss Annie O.

Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Monts of Little
Mountain, announce the marriage
of their daughter, Catherine Janet,
to Alvin D. Adams, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Leo T. Adams of Prosperity.
The marriage took place at the
home of the officiating minister,
the Rev. J. Aubrey Estes on Cald
well street at 6 o’clock Saturday,
November 9, 1946.
Mrs. Douglas Hornsby is visiting
her brother, F. M. Ewart in Ocala,
Fla. She will return to her home
here on Johnstone street about the
last of the month.
Thomas McCrackin, who holds a
position with the Delta Airlines in
Atlanta, Ga., spent from Friday un
til Monday here in the home of
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Mc
Crackin.

Here Monday
Leona Flood, the gifted young
violinist who is being presented
Monday, November 18 at 8:15 p. m.
at the Newberry high school under
the auspices of the Newberry Junior
Chamber of Commerce had one of
the most exciting experiences of her
career at Vilna, Poland, which, in
cidentally, is the birthplace of both
Heifetz and Godowsky.
The concert was given in the
same hall where Heifetz made his
debut, with the same little old
stagehand officiating. With her
accomanist and mother, she was met
at the station by two members of
the orchestra in what was quite the

up, waving a whip to keep the
horse galloping in a race with an
other droshky.

seeking work through the Newber
ry U. S. Employment office, 269 oi
these persons being veterans. Dur
ing the month of October, 79 new
applicantsregistered for work and 76
persons found jobs through the local
office. Also, 32 coi|nseling inter
views were held to assist applicants
in choosing satisfactory vocation or
in solving some problem relating to
his chosen vocation. Visits to em
ployers to obtain jcb orders totaled
142. The largest number of orders
on file are for unskilled common
labor and the demand for this type
worker exceeds the supply available
through the office.
