THE NEWBERRY SUN FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1946 AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR THE RAIS- ING OF A REVENUE FOR THE TOWN OF NEWBERRY, SOUTH CAROLINA. BY THE LEVYING OF TAXES IN THE SAID TOWN FOR THE YEAR NINETEEN HUN DRED AND FORTY-SIX. BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Aldermen of the Town of New berry. South Carolina, in Council asse mbled. That for the purpose of raising revenue, and in the exercise of the taxing power of the said Town, the following taxes are hereby levied fir th fiscal year ending Decem ber 31st, 1946, upon all real and personal property within the cor ner t limits of the Town of New berry, South Carolina (except upon such property as is exempt from taxation under the Constitution and laws of this State), upon the valua tion thereof as assessed for taxa tion for State and County purposes: (1) That a tax of nineteen mills on each dollar’s worth of real and personal property within the cor porate limits of the Town of Newberry, South Carolina (except upon such property as is exempt from taxation under the Constitu tion and laws of this State), is hereby levied to defray the ordinary expenses of the said Town of New berry, South Carolina, for the fis cal year ending December 31st, 1946. (2) That a tax of one-eight mill on each dollar’s worth of real and personal property within the cor porate limits of the Town of New berry, South Carolina (except upon such property as is exempt from taxation under the Constitution and laws of this State), js hereby levied for the purpose of raising a revenue to pay the interest and to create a sinking fund for the bonded indebt edness of said town for the “Water Bonds”, issued in the year 1909. (3) That a tax of five-eights of a mill on each dollar’s worth of real and personal property within the corporate limits of the Town of Newberry, South Carolina (except upon such property as is exempt from taxation under the Constitu tion and laws of this State), is hereby levied for the purpose of raising a revenue to pay the inter est on, and to create a sinking fund for, the bonded indebtedness of the said Town for the ‘ Water and Sew er Bonds”, issued in 1909. (4) That p tax of four and one- half mills on each dollar’s worth of real and personal property within the corporate limits cf the Town of Newberry, South Carolina (ex cept upon such property as is exempt from taxation under the Constitution and laws of this State), is hereby levied for the purpose of raising a revenue to pay the inter est on, and to create a sinking fund, for the bonded indebtedness of th e said Town for the “Street Improvement Bonds,” issued in the year 1924. (6) That a tax of three mills on each dollar’s worth of real and per sonal property within the corpor ate limits of the Town of Newber ry, South Carolina (except such property as is exempt from taxa tion under the Constitution and laws of this State), is hereby levied for the purpose of raising a reve nue to pay the interest on, and to create a sinking fund for, the bond ed indebtedness of said Town for “Street Improvement Bonds”, is sued in the year 1925. Metzger in Savannah, Ga. of Newberry, South Carolina (except such property as is exempt from taxation under the Constitution and laws of this State), is hereby levied for the purpose of raising a revenue to pay the interest on, and to create a sinking fund for, the bonded in debtedness of said Town for Water Bohds”, issued in the year 1925. (8) That a tax of five-eights of a mill on each dollar’s worth of real and personal property within the corporate limits of the Town of Newberry, South Carolina (except such property as is exempt from taxation under the Constitution an “ laws of this State), is hereby levied for the purpose of raising a revenue to pay the interest on, and to create a sinking fund for, the bonded in debtedness of said Town for “Sewer Bonds”, issued in the year 1925. (9) That a tax of one and one- half mills on each dollar’s worth of real and personal property within the corporate limits of the Town or Newberry, South Carolina (except such property as is exempt from taxation under the Constitution and laws of this State), is hereby levied for the purpose of raising a revenue to pay the interest on, and to create a sinking fund for, “Fire Depart ment Improvement Bonds,” issued in the year 1936. (11) That a tax of two mills on each dollar’s worth of real and per sonal property within the corporate limits of the Town of Newberry, South Carolina (except such prop erty as is exempt from taxation un der the Constitution and laws of this State), is hereby levied for the pur- poes of raising a revenue to pay the interest on, and to create a sinking fund for, the bonded indebtedness of the said Town for the “Refund ing Bonds”, issued in 1939. (12) That a tax of one mill on each dollar’s worth of real and personal property within the cor porate limits of the Town of New berry, South Carolina (except such property as is exempt from taxa tion under the Constitution and laws of this State), is hereby levied for the purpose of raising a revenue to pay the interest on, and to create a sinking fund for, the bonded in debtedness of the said Town for the “Refunding Bonds”, issued in 1941. (13) That a tax of one and one- half mills on each dollar’s worth of real and personal property with in the corporate limits of the Town of Newberry, South Carolina (ex cept such property as is exempt from taxation under the Constitu tion and laws of this State), is hereby levied for the purpose of raising a revenue to pay the interest on, and to create a sinking fund for, the bonded indebtedness of# the said Town for the “Refunding Bonds”, issued n 1945. That all taxes herein levied shall be paid to the said Town of New berry, South Carolina, in good and lawful n.jncy of the United States of America between the first day of October, 1946, and the fifteenth day of December, 1946, and on any tax not paid on, or before, December 15th, 1946, a penalty of one per cent, thereof shall be added and collected until December 31st, 1946, and on any tax not paid by said time, an additional penalty of one per cent, shall be added and col lected until January 31st, 1947, and on any tax not paid on said date, an additional penalty of eight rer cent, shall be added; and for any tax not paid on or before January 31st, 1947, execution will be issued ac cording to law for the collection of same, including all fines and penalties. Miss Elizabeth Dickert has ac cepted a position at the Newberry County Hospital, as secretary to the manager, James W. Henderson. C., in the collection of taxes of the Town of Newberry, assessed I for and during the year 1946, be, land he is hereby, authorized to al- J low to all taxpayers of the Town of Newberry, S. C., a discount of one percent, on all taxes paid dur ing the month of October, 1946, and to allow a discount of one-half of one per cent, on all taxes paid said | Town during the month of Novem ber, 1946.
