AUGUST 2. 1946 THE NEWBERRY SUN NOTICE OF PRIMARY ELECTION Notice is hereby given that a Democratic primary will be held in Newberry county on Tuesday, Aug ust 13, 1946, for the purpose of balloting on a governor, lieutenant governor, commissioner of agricul ture, state superintendent of edu cation, congressman, probate judge, and five magistrates. Polls will tpen at 8 a. m. and close at 4 p. m., and only qualified Democrats may vote and only those persons whose nam^s appear on the club rolls of the voting precincts will be allow ed to vote. The chairman or some member of each group of managers named below are asked to call for the boxes at the customary place on Saturday, August 10, preceding the primary. Polling, Oscar Gra- Notice for Bids The County Board of Education of Newberry County hereby asks for sealed bids to transport pupils in the following districts, each district to have its individual bus and not consolidated with any other district or districts. 1. St. Pauls District, Number 34, to Pomaria. 2. Central District, Number 21, to Pomaria. All bid J ers'shall be required to place eay . bid in a separate enve lope on tue outside of which shall be plainly marked the school dist rict and the route for the bid en closed. The contracts will be awarded for a term of three years unless sooner cancelled for cause, and for the respective school terms to the lowest responsible bidder or bidders. The bidders shall fur nish the buses and drivers of same and shall comply with all laws and regulations relative to the fur nishing, driving, and equipping of same. Bids will be received through Friday, August 2, 1946 and will be opened Saturday, August 3, 1946, and awards made as soon as poS' sible. Long and Cousins Sell Dairy To Geo. W. Summer Long and Cousins have sold their herd of dairy cattle to Geo. W. Summer, owner of the Sanitary dairy. It is understood that 14 head of fine dairy stock wer e included in the deal. Jesse F. Hawkins is manager of the Sanitary Dairy and the buying of these extra cattle means a larg er output from this fine plant. Accidentally Shoots Self With Pistol H. T. Fellers suffered a wound in his right leg wh e n a pistol, which he was carrying with some books and papers under his arm, exploded when it fell and struck the cement floor of the office of the Standard Oil company at the plant in rear of the Farmers Oil mill. Mr. Fellers in returning from de livering oil and had the pistol which the drivers of the trucks of the Standard Oil Co., are required to carry, with some books and papers in his hands and in unlocking the door the pistol fell and exploded. He is doing nicely but will have to be in bed for 10 days. We're Confused! Use this pro cedure: Give him a pencil and paper, and ask him to (1) jjut down his age; (2) multiply it by 2; (3) add 5; (4) Multiply it by 50; (5) subtract 365 from the number so obtained. Now ask him for the number as well as the amount of change less than a dollar. To the number he tells you add 115 plus the amount of change. Now if he hasn’t made any mis takes in arithmetic, the first two digits of the number will be his age. Naturally! “I don’t know why this happened.
