— 4 West'Kauffman Reception Outstanding among the summer social affairs in Newberry was the beautiful reception given in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Kauffman who were married June 25, at the Church of the Transfiguration, known as “The Little Church Around the Corner”, New York City. This lovely affair, attended by three hundred guests, was giv en by Mrs. J. H. West, Miss Pearl West and Mrs. E. W. Yates, at the home of Mrs. West on Calhoun street Monday evening, July 8 from 8;30 to 10:30. _ Mrs. R. H. Wright and Mrs. R. D. Wright greeted the guests at the door and Dr. and Mrs. James C. Kinard presented them to the receiving line composed of the hostesses and Mr. and Mrs. Kauff man. Mr. and Mrs. John F. Clark son then presented them to a sec ond receiving line of honor guests. Dr. and Mrs. Reives Chalmers, Washington, D. C.; Mrs. R. H. Shirley, Atlanta, Ga.; Mrs. Don MacRea, Asheville, N. C.; Miss Grace Mower, bride-elect and her fiance, Robert Duncan, whose mar riage is to take place in July. Mr. and Mrs. J, N. Nichols in vited to the dining room where Mrs. Steve Griffith, Miss Claire Sligh and Miss Evelyn Bums, pre sided. Caroline Pool and Susan Cogbum, assisted with the serving of ice cream, individual wedding cakes, mints and punch. As the guests left the dining room Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hayes, Miss Eliza beth Pendergrass and Miss Marjorie Paysinger pinned on favors. Mr. and Mrs. George K. Dominick en tertained in the hall and directed to the bride’s register presided over by Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Cobb and Mr. and Mrs. Claud Smith Mr. and Mrs. T. J. West directed t> the music room, where Mr. and Mrs. Richard Baker and Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Brown entertained. Punch was served from two large bowls on the front porch presided over by Mrs. Floyd Bradley, Misses Sudie Dennis, Grace Wilbur and Grace Summer, assisted by Misses Ann Carpenter, Evelyn Leavell, Muriel Harmon, Verna Kohn and Gloria Summer. The West home was lovely throughout. Huge banks of white gladioli, carnations and many candles made an effective back ground for the receiving lines. The dining table held a three tiered wedding cake in a dainty arrange ment of flowers. The other rooms were decorated in yellow calla li lies and candles. Candles were used along the stairway. Music was furnished throughout the evening by Miss Mary Alice Mitchell, violinist. Miss Juanita Hitt and Mrs. S. E. Denton, pianist. For the occasion Mrs. Kauffman the bride, wore a white silk mous seline dress. The V shaped neck, cut low in the back was outlined in lace. She wore a coronet of white carnations in her hair. Mrs. West wore a gown of white jersey with rosebud design and a corsage of white carnations. Miss West wore white lace with pink rose buds. Mrs. Yates wore blue lace with pink rosebuds. Mr. and Mrs. Kauffman will make their home in Newberry. Mr. Kauffman is the State Manager of the Citizens Home Fire Insurance company and is director of the Newberry Broadcasting company. He was formerly registrar of New berry College.
