It has come to my attention that some persons have the impression that I will not be a candidate for election to the office of Probate Judge. That is incorrect. I have al ready filed with the County Chair man the required pledge as a candi date and have paid the assessment of $125.00. It may be that a statement which 1 made sometime since as to my can didacy was misunderstood. I said that if some handicapped or disabled war veteran desired the office, I would stand aside in his favor for I have always wished to do what I could to show my appreciation of the services rendered our Country by our young men, especially those who have been injured or disabled. So far, I have heard of no such young man who had an ambition to hold the office of Pro bate Judge. In fact, I have not been able, although I have wished to do so, to get such a young man to act as clerk in my office. Mrs. Ross, who has very efficiently assisted me, be cause of her other duties, has wished to be relieved of her work In the Pro bate Judge’s office. She has contin ued because I have been unable up to this time, to get competent help. I shall be glad to receive any applica- Mollie FennelL daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Mrs. G. B. Swygert of Atlanta, Ga., arrived in Newberry over the week end to spend several weekn with rel atives in the city and county. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph B. Baker are moving this week to “Tanglewood,” their summer home on Lake Murray, for the summer months. They will be joined by their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Henry Baker of Greenwood, no tion from any young man, or woman, either, who is qualified for the duties of clerk in the office. I appreciate so much the kindness es of the people while I have held the office of Probate Judge. It is work in which I am interested, since the duties relate so much to the affairs and business of widows and orphans. It is one of the offices that a woman can well fill. Already in our StEte six counties have women Probate Judges. I shall be glad to have anyone in terested in the work of the office to call there at any time. Respectfully, (MRS. NEAL W.) GENEVA T. D.
