Miss Mabel Summer
Weds Roy Anderson
In a ceremony, impressive for it’s
simplicity, Miss Mabel Caroline Sum
mer became the bride of William
Roy Anderson, Jr., on Sunday, May
fifth at five o’clock at the home of
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gurnie R.
Summer on Summer street.
The Rev. J. Aubrey Estes, pastor
of the First Baptist church perform
ed the ceremony using the impres
sive double ring ritual of the Bap
tist church, in the presence of the
immediate families.
Miss Virginia Anderson, sister of
the bridegroom, was the maid of
honor and the bride’s only attendant.
She wore an afternoon dress of Ro
man striped taffeta with fuschia
gloves and a pink tipped orchid.
Powell Way served as the bride
groom’s best man.
The bride, a lovely brunette, look
ed charming i n a Fred Block original
suit of powder blue with which she
wore black accessories and a cattleya
orchid corsage. She entered with
her father by whom she was given
in marriage. The vows were spok
en before an improvised altar of
palms, smilax and regal lilies, in
the glow of lighted cathedral tapers.
The home was decorated throughout
with lilies, white snapdragons, and
lighted tapers.
The bride’s mother wore a black
afternoon dress with a corsage of
red carnations. The bridegroom’s
mother also wore a black dress and
a hat of dubonnet and chartreuse
flowers.
Mrs. Anderson is the only daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Gurnie R. Sum
mer. She is a graduate of Newber
ry High school and attended Brenau
College and the University of South
Carolina, where she was a member
of the Zeta Tau Alpha national sor
ority.
Mr. Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs.
W. R. An 'rson, Sr., was graduated
from Newberry High school, after
which he served four years in the
United States Marine Corps, three
years in the Coast Arillery Corps,
and two years with the 17th Air
borne Division, 15 months of which
was overseas duty with the rank of
first lieuenant. He was recently
discharged from he Army.
An informal supper was seived
after the ceremony, after which the
couple left on a wedding trip.
A formal reception will be given in
honor of the young couple, at the
home of the bride’s parents on Wed
nesday evening, May 15th.
CORRECTION
In our last issue we stated that E.
V. Ragsdale, who was promoted to
first Lieutenant in Korea, was the
husband of Jane Summer. It should
have read the husband of the former
Antionatte Sease. First Lt. Charles
Ragland is the husband of the for
mer Jane Summer. He has been over
seas since December and is stationed
in Jamaca.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C.’Hipp of Spar
tanburg, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Hipp
of Greenville and Mrs. Hattie Ful
mer and Miss Harriett Fulmer of
Columbia, were Sunday guests in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Hipp
and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hedgepath
on Harrington street.
