Wedded To
Capt. Jester
Xhe First Baptist church was the
scene of one of the most beautiful
weddings of this spring when on
the evening of April 20th, at eight
o’clock Miss Carolyn Buchanan be
came the bride of Captain Charles
Cranston Jester, United States
Army, of Wilmington, Del. The
ceremony was prounounced by the
pastor, the Rev. J. Aubrey Estes,
who used the impressive ring ritual
of the church.
The church was decorated in white
and green flowers, white candles in
branched candelabra with back
ground of Southern .smilax and
magnolia gandiflora foliage.
The wedding music, and a lovely
pre-nuptial program, was rendered
by f Mrs. W. H. Cleveland, soprano
soloist, of Marietta, Ga.; Miss Eliza
beth Hoges, soprano, of Newberry;
and Miss Vivian Ellis, organist.
The bride’s attendants were Mrs.
Clifton Stadler of Simpsonville, her
sister, the matron of honor; Miss
■Mary Gullick of Greenville; Miss
Mary Sue Whitmire, a nd Mrs. F. M.
Gribble, both of Greenville; Mrs.
Paul Floyd of Gray Court; Mrs. T.'
W. Cooley, Jr., of Panama City, Fla.;
and Mrs. Donald Davis of Simpson
ville, were the bridesmaids. They
wore white dresses fashioned with
shirred bodices and full net skirts
and carried arm bouquets of red
carnations and roses.
The usher-groomsmen were, T. E.
Epting of Newberry; F. M. Gribble,
T. W. Cooley, Jr., H. R. Owins, all
of Greenville; R. M. Jackson, Jr., of
Anderson; and Harry Bouknight of
Newberry. Clifton R. Stadler of
Simpsonville, was best man.
The bride entered on the arm of
her father, James William Buchanan,
by whom she was given in marriage.
She was lovely in her bridal
gown of ivory slipper satin featur
ing a fitted bodice fastened down
the back with small satin buttons,
sweetheart neckline, long sleeves
ending in points over the hands, a
court length train and long veil of
illusion dependant from a coronet of
organe blossoms. She carried a bou
quet of Calla lilies centered with an
orchid.
Mrs. Buchanan, mother of the
bride, wore a light blue lace and
chiffon dress and corsage of pink
rosebuds.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. James William Buchanan
(Lucy Cheek of Gray Court) and re
ceived her education in Newberry
schools and was graduated from
Newberry College, class of 1941,
where she was an outstanding stu
dent a ud leader in campus activities.
Since her graduation she has been a
member of the faculty of Greenville
high school.

Lovely Ceremony
At eight o’clock on Easter Sun
day evening, April 1st, Miss Lur-
lee Shealy, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Claud E. Shealy, Newberry
and M-Sgt. Henry Ralph Fellers,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Howell C. Fel
lers were married.
The impressive ring ceremony
was pronounced by Dr. E. B. Keis-
ler.
The candles were lighted by Tay
lor Shealy, brother of the bride and
Francis Keisler of Newberry. Flow
er girls were Rachel Ann Wilson ami
Jenny Walker of Clinton, who scat
tered rose petals in the path of the
i bride.
Donny Devore of Newberry was
ing bearer, carrying the ring in

The vows were spoken before a

Mrs. Heath Copeland, organist, and
Miss Virginia Shull of Charleston,

The bride was given in marriage
by her father, wore an ivory dutchess
satin gown with lace yoke, high
neck, fitted bodice buttoned down
the front, and full skirt with a
long train. The full length veil of
bridal illusion was held with a coro
net of seed pearls. She carried a
white prayer book topped with a
white orchid and showered with
carnations and lilies of the valley.
Miss Juanita Shealy, sister of the
bride, was maid of honor. They wore
aqua dresses with fitted bodices
and full skirts girdled with belts.
They wore coronets of talisman
roses and carried arm bouquets of
yellow roses.
The bridesmaid was Mrs. Fred
Hiller of Lexington, cousin of the
bride; Mrs. Carl Hawkins, Colum
bia, sister of the bride; Miss Mar
ion Fellers of Newberry and Rock
Hill, sister of the bridegroom; and
Miss Ruth Teal of Clinton.
The bridegroom had as his best
man his eldest brother, Ensign H.
Everett Fellers of Quonset Point,
A. I. Usher-groomsmen were, Hen
ry T. Fellers, uncle of the bride-
of Mrs. Elizabeth R. Jester, and the
late Charles F. Jester of Wilming
ton, Delaware. He has recently re
turned from twenty-one months ser
vice in the South Pacific.
After a wedding tri pto New York
and Canada, Captain a nd Mrs. Jester
will be at home at 719 Arlington
avenue, Greenville.
The bride wore for traveling a
red gaberdine two-piece suit with
black accessories and a cartreuse top
coat.

Mrs. Shealy, mother of the bride,
wore a dusty rose crepe dress and
a shoulder corsage of pink rose
buds.
Mrs. Fellers, mother of the groom,
wore a powder blue crepe romaine
dress with a shoulder corsage of
pink rosebuds.
The couple left for a short wed
ding trip, then they will make their
home at Fort Benning, Ga.
Mrs. Fellers was graduated from
Newberry high school and Farrow’s
Beauty Academy. Since then she
has been with the Dell’s beauty shop
in Clinton.
M-Sgt. Fellers is stationed a t Fort
Bennipg, Ga. He received his dis-
Iharge in January and reenlisted
immediately thereafter.
Mrs. Roy Clary was called to
Georgetown Wednesday morning on
account of the serious illness of her
father, William C. Bynum. Mr. By
num has been head of the George
town schools for the past forty
years.

CPL. JAMES PETE BISHOP,
route 4, Newbery, was separated
from the Marine corps at Camp Le-
jeune, N. C., on April 12. He went
in the service in December of 1943,
and served overseas one year, ten
months and 29 days.
PVT. WINSTON E. MOMURT-
URY, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry V.
McMurtury of route 1, Newberry,
and PVT. RALPH M. SCHUMPERT,
son of DufFie Schumpert, route 4,
Newberry, have arrived safely in
Naples a nd have been assigned to the
337th Quarter Master Depot Co., a
unit of the Peninsular Base Section,
the Army Service Forces in Italy.
MAX E. SMITH, son of Mr. and
Mrs. W. L. Smith, 2022 Columbia
highway, has been discharged at
the Atlanta, Ga., Ordance Depot,
and reenlisted for three years in
the Regular Army. At the same
time, he was promoted from Private
to Private first class. His reenlist
ment was accomplished for service
with the Army Air Forces.
T-5 CHAS. E. SENN, 704 O’Neal
street, was separated from the
Army at the Fort Bragg, N. C.,
Separation Center on April 9th, af
ter being a member of he service
three years. He spent one year,
four months and three days overseas
in the European theater where he
participated in the battles of North
ern France. He is entitled to wear
the ATO, EAMET with one star,
Good Conduct and World War II
Victory medals.
Mrs. H. M. Davis of Saluda was a
business visitor in Newberry one day
last week.

VIRGIL LEON RUFF, Electri
cian’s Mate, 3-c, route 1, Pomaria,
was released from the Navy at the
Charleston Naval Separation station
last Friday. He was a member of
the Navy about two years. He was
awarded the ATO and World War
II Victory medals.
PVT. GRADY S. GOGGINS, route
4, Newberry, received his honorable
discharge from the Army at the
Port McPherson, Ga., Separation
Center on April 18th. He was a
member of the service about two
years and served overseas 11 months
and 18 days. He participated in* the
battles of central Europe and is en
titled to wear the EAMET service
medal with two bronze stars, the
APT service and the Good Conduct
and Victory medals.
Miss Frances Ruff of Columbia
spent the Easter holidays with her
brother, George Ruff and Mrs. Ruff
in the county.
