MAJOR JAMES L. LIPSCOMB,
who is now on terminal leave until
June 13, after which he will receive
his official discharge from the army
at the Camp Gordon, Ga., Separation
Center, with his wife and their
■daughter, Bruice, who have been
making their home in Columbia, are
spending a ten day visit with Mrs.
Lipscomb’s parents in Virginia.
Major Lipscomb entered the ser
vice September 23, 1943, and served
overseas with the 319th Bombard
ment Group ten months. He parti
cipated in the air offensive over Ja
pan and was awarded the American
Campaign Medal, the Agiatic-Paci
fic and World War II Victory Me
dals.
Major and Mrs. Lipscomb and
Bruice will move to Newberry about
the first of April when they will
make their home in the Margaret
Apartments on Johnstone street.
Major Lipscomb will be connected
with the Lipscomb Motor Company
on Harrington street as partner
with his brother, E. >M. Lipscomb.
VERNON J. LIVINGSTON, S2-c,
who recently returned to the states
from Shanghai, China, is spending
an 11-day furlough at his home in
the Hartford community.
After his leave he will report to
Charleston, where he will receive his
discharge at the Naval Separation
Center.
Dr. Marshall C. Dendy, pastor of
the First Presbyterian church of
Orlando, Fla., will be speaker on the
Presbyterian Hour over radio sta
tion WIS, Columbia, Sunday morn
ing, March 31st a t 8:30 A. M.
Dr. Dendy was pastor of Aveleigh
Presbyterian church in the c 1 ', for
a number of years, and his many
friends and former parishoners will
be delighted to hear him at this
time.
J. ,J. (Billy) McSwain, a student
at the University of Minneapolis,
Minn., arrived in the city Saturday
to spend the spring holidays with
his mother, Mrs. H. N'. Wallace and
Mr. Wallace on Main street.
Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Goodrich
and small son, Emmett, Jr., are
spending several days with Mrs.
Goodrich’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.
L. Lester in the Hartford commun
ity.
Miss Margaret Scruggs, a mem
ber of the Denmark school. faculty,
was a weekend visitor in the home
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George
F. Scruggs on College street ex
tension.
Mrs. O. O. Copeland; her son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Os
wald Copeland; and sister, Mrs. Jack
Shealy of Clinton spent the week
end visiting the gardens of Charles
ton.

Dick Boulware of the Hartford
community, who is a patient in the
Columbia hospital, is reported to be
doing nicely.

spent the weekend in the home of
her daughter, Mrs. John H. Halfacre
and family on Harrington street.
"Miss Catherine Renwick of Duke
Hospital, Durham, N. C. spent the
weekend in the home of her sister,
Mrs. George S. Ruff and Mr. Ruff in
the county.
Allen Hipp, who has been a patient
in the Baptist Hospital for the past
three weeks, returned to his home in
Newberry Wednesday and is im
proving nicely.
Mr and Mrs. David Williams and
son, Jimmy of Florence were weekend
visitors in the home of Mr. Williams’
parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Williams
on Mayer Avenue.
T. S. Humphries, Jr., a student
at V. P. I. Blacksburg, Va., is spend
ing this week in the home of his

Miss Anna Hart, a student at Con
verse college, Spartanburg, was a
weekend visitor in the home of her
