Vaccinating: Trough
V ACCINATION of hogs, so es-
w sential to disease control, de
creased mortality and increased
production, can be greatly simpli
fied by constructing a vaccinating
trough. Not only does such a
trough make vaccinating more con
venient, but it helps to prevent in
jury to the hogs. An injured hog
usually brings a lower price on the
market.
A sturdy trough can be con
structed of lumber at low cost. A
good size is four feet long and two
feet high. The supports at either
end are made of 2x4’s braced at
the bottom with lx4’s. The trough
is made of one piece of 2x12 four-
feet long and one piece of 2x10
four feet long.
A fairly efficient hog oiler can
be made cheaply by wrapping bur
lap around a post and binding the
burlap with rope or heavy cord.
If the post is grooved the burlap
will absorb oil more readily. Best
results are obtained by frequent
applications of oil.

in favor of reporting out the bill
raising the national minimum wage j
to 65 cents an hour, but threatened
a floor fight to restore the exemp
tion of cotton gins, canneries and
other agricultural processes which
would be covered for the first time
by the new law.

On Friday evening, February 15,
at the residence of the bride’s
mother, Mrs. Claudia Suber, New
berry, Mrs. Suber Smith and Robert
Fred Daniels, S K 1-C, USN, Fent
ress, Texas, were united in marriage
by Dr, R. A. Goodman in the pres
ence, of the immediate family. After
a short trip they will make their
home in Charleston, S. C.
Enjoy Luxury of Hot Bath
A HOT bath at the end of a
hard day is a luxury which
few farmers enjoy. Yet it can be
done easily with the installation of
running water and a water heater.
One popular idea is putting - a
shower stall down in the basement,
near the door leading outside.
Clothes lockers can then be put
near the shower stall and when the
men come in from work they can
take off their dusty clothes, shower
and then put on clean slack suits
or clean pants and shirt which will
not leave, the marks of the barn on
upholstered furniture. Lockers and
shower stall can be made of asbes
tos cement board. Neither water
nor steam will cause this material
to rust or rot.
When fixing up the farm kitchen
and installing a bath, don’t forget
to make provision for lots of hot
water. Automatic water heating is
best, as it costs little and you’ll
never have to think about it. Gas
is the most dependable and eco
nomical fuel for this purpose.
Liquefied petroleum gas, some
times known as “tank” or “b'-ttled”
gas, is available everywhere. A gas
service man in a nearby town can
furnish all the information you
may want.

cently spent a few days in the home
of Mrs. Smiley’s cousin, Mrs. Har-
riette O’Donnell on Boundary street.
W HEN the Japs grabbed the rubber trees
of Malaya and the East Indies, they
never visioned that these "rubber towers”
would spring up in Texas. Here, in the modern
plant pictured above which is operated by
Sinclair Rubber Inc. for the Government, a
petroleum product, butylene, is transformed
into butadiene. And butadiene, when mixed
with styrene, becomes today’s tree-less rubber—
synthetic rubber with a bounce.
