y, •T i V ? EIGHT THE NEWBERRY SUN FRIDAY. DECEMBER SOT. HELEN MEW IS WAC RESIDENT RECRUITER Newberry welcomes this week, s*t. Helen Mew from the U. S. Army Recruiting Station,. Columbia, who has been assigned as Resident Recruiter for the Army in New berry. Sergeant Mew is a native of Bos ton, Mass., but her past. two years have been spent in the south so she now feels like a confirmed southern er. Before entering the service on December 16, 1942, Sergeant Maw was employed by the First National Bank of Boston. After being sworn into the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps on December 18, she waited until the Christmas holidays before reporting for her training at Day tona Beach, Fla. Upon completion of her basic training she went to Motor Transport School in Daytona and after graduating from this school she was kept on as instructor On August 5. 1943, she was sworn into the Women’s Army Corps and the green and gold riwion she wears signifies her re-enlistment. In February of this year she was assigned to recruiting duty in Co lumbia and has recruited all over the state. “For soutiheirn hospitality’’, says Sergeant Mew, “there is no place like South Carolina.” Sergeant Mew will be in Newber ry permanently, and will have head quarters at the Post Office. She will live with Mrs. R. D. Wright at 2029 McCaughrin Avenue. The mis sion of Sergeant Mew here is of vital importance to the war effort 'because of the great need for women to train as Medical Technicians for service in caring for the tremen dous return of wounded soldiers from the battle fronts all over the world. To All Whom These Presents May Concern: Whereas, by an Act of the Gen eral Assembly of the State of South Carolina, entitled, “An Act in Re lation to Forfeited Lands, Delinquent Lands and Collection of Taxes,” ap proved December 24, 1887, and Acts amendatory thereof, the Treasurer of Newberry County of the afore- '■’id State, has in compliance there with, issued in the name of the State, tax executions against de faulting taxpayers of the aforesaid County and State as herein below listed and has directed T. L. Hill, as Tax Collector of Newberry county, or his lawful deputy, to levy the same by distress and sale of so much of the defaulting taxpayer’;; estate, real or personal, or both, to satisfy the taxes of each defaulter. Whereas, it is further provided by the said Act, and Amendatory Acts that under and by virtue of the said Tax Executions, the Tax Collector of Newberry County shall sieze and take passession of so much of the defaulting taxpayer’s estate, real or personal, or both, to raise a sum of money sufficient to cover delinquent taxes of each taxpayer hereinafter listed -plus the charges thereon. Hav ing complied with these terms, the Tax Collector will, after advertise ment, sell to the highest bidder, or bidders, for cash, the same property before the Court House door of the aforesaid County on a regular sales- day in January, next (same being January 1st 1945), within the usual hours for public sales. After com- nleting these sales, the Tax Collector will give to the purchases (upon his complying with the terms of the sale) a receipt for the purchase mon ey, but not make title to the pur chaser until after the lapse of 12 months from the day of sale.
