50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
CELEBRATED
On Tuesday evening, October 17,
Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Suber were
honored with a reception given by
their daughter and son-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Pat. B. Mitchell, and grand
daughters, Misses Mary Alice and
Elizabeth Mitchell, at their home
near the city. The occasion was in
celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Suber’s
fiftieth wedding anniversary.
The guests were greeted at the
door by Mrs. J. W. Smith who in
troduced them to the receiving line
consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell,
Misses Mary Alice and Elizabeth
Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Suber; sur
viving members of the wedding party
fifty years ago: Mrs. W. E. Elmore,
sister of Mrs. Suber, Miss Elizabeth
Dominick, Mrs. Emma Riser Long
shore, Mrs. G. G. Sale and Thomas
Wicker; also, J. C. Duncan and W.
E. Elmore, brothers-in-law.
Mrs. Wilton Todd invited the
guests into the dining room where
Miss Elizabeth Harmon, Mrs. C. P.
Summer and Miss Katherine Elmore
presided and were assisted in send
ing delicious refreshments of sand
wiches, pound cake, punch and mints
by Misses Catherine Dickert, Eulalia
Buford, Barbara Long, Rosemary
Shealy and Mrs. Pinckney Abrams.
Serving punch were Mrs. Douglas
Hornsby and Mrs. Thomas Long
shore.
The dining room table was over
laid with a lace dinner cloth and
centered with a lovely three-tiered
bride’s cake topped with miniature
figurines of a bridal couple and also
bore the dates in gold of 1894-1944.
Mrs. John Suber of Whitmire, cousin
of Mr. and Mrs. Suber, made the
cake which was outstanding in its
beauty.
Mrs. George K. Dominick invited
the guests into the hall where Misses
Mary Ann Todd and Deane Abbott
pinned dainty yellow chrysanthe
mums tied with yellow satin ribbon
on each guest. Mrs. J. P. Moon then
greeted the gueses as they entered
the living room.
Miss Sadye Jones invited the guests
into the den where Mrs. W. E. Long
received and where many handsome
gifts were beautifully displayed.
Mrs. E. L. Shealy, of Little Moun
tain, presided over the register
which was showered with a bridal
bouquet. Mrs. E. H. Moore bade the
guests goodnight.
Lovely piano music was furnished
throughout the evening by Mrs. F. 0.

The home was artistically decorat
ed throughout with yellow candles
and yellow and white chrysanthe
mums and dahlias.
Of significant interest was Mrs.
Suber’s lovely wedding gown and
orange blossoms worn by her grand
daughter, Miss Elizabeth Mitchell.
The Bengaline silk g-.wn was a fash
ion of half a century ago with leg-o-
mutton sleeves and lengthy train
edged with Irish lace.
For the reception, Mrs. Suber
wore a soldier blue dress with yel
low throated orchid corsage tied I
with gold ribbon.
The members of the receiving line
and those assisting jn entertaining
wore lovely evening gowns.
Mrs. Suber was the former Miss
Many FVances Suber. daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Suber.
Mr. Suber is the son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. W. H. Suber. Mr. and Mrs.
Suber have lived their entire lives
in Newberry county where they are
loved by a host of friends. Their only
child is Mrs. Pat. B. Mitchell and
they have three grandchildren, Miss
Mary Alice Mitchell of Newberry,
Pvt. Charles E. Mitchell who is
serving in the U. S. Army now sta
tioned in Italy, and Miss Elizabeth
Mitchell of Atlanta, Ggeoria.
Mr. and Mrs. Suber were married
October 17, 1894, at the Central
Methodist church, Newberry. Other
surviving members of the wedding
party -who were unable to attend the
celebration are Miss Annie Bynum,
Mr. Frank Bynum, Mr. Frank Chap
man of Greenwood, Mr. G. Frank
Wearn, and Mrs. Thomas Cromer..
