VOTE FOR ;
SAM A. COOK
For Coroner
1 seek your vote in next Tuesday’s primary and promise
close attention and my best efforts in carrying out the
duties of the office.
1 always supported the late Coroner Wilson who held
this office for almost 20 years. However, 1 feel that the
office is now back in the hands of the people to bestow as
they see fit solely upon the fitness of the men now offering.
1 have been a farmer in the county for many years,, liv
ing near Newberry and Prosperity. ' 1 am 50 years of age
and served in the last world war. My only two sons are
how serving overseas.
1 am at present at the refreshment stand in the Bus Sta
tion and have bought a home in Newberry where I will
move my family soon.
If 1 am elected Coroner and any returning disabled vet
eran wished to offer for the office I will step down and
support him. No one should stand in the way of our re
turning service men.
I will be most grateful for your support next Tuesday.
CONDITIONS OF THE PRIORITY
REFERRAN .PROGRAM
The Priority referral program
• viliieh was initiated by the War Man
power Commission July 1, 1944 is
based on the following facts.
The successful conduct of the war
r.t this stage requires the extension
of cur manpower along the following
lines; » 4
■ To channel available male labor
to jobs in the order of the relative
importance of those jobs to the war
effort
To i_cruit worlcers for jobs impor
tant, to the war effort.
To work with employers in making
the best use of current labor force.
To retain workers -already employ
ed in essential jobs.
Priority referral is t program
which provides that employ er except
those specifically excluded in any
•area may hire only from those re
ferred by the U. S. Employment Ser
vice
These workers will be referred to
employers according to the impor
tance of those jobs to the war ef
fort. Before this, farm workers who
were hired for only short periods in
other work were not required to be
hired through U.S. Employment Ser
vice hot beginning July 1 all workers
must be hired through the U .S. Em
ployment Service. A large number of
these workers are hired by the lum
ber and pulpwood industries, so this
is especially brought to their atten
tion. These industries are very es
sential and it is the policy of the em
ployment lor vice to help these em
ployers in every way possible
The U. S. Employment Service will
Elect Olin D. Johnston

Look At His Distinguished Retord and Qualifications:
1. Exemplary, faithful, and far-sighted service as Legislator, and as
Governor.
2. Olih D. Johnston was a soldier. He served in the famous 42nd,
‘’Rainbow” Division, on the battle-fields of France and Germany during the
first world war. He knows the problems eminating from the present war for
the men in uniform. He is sympathetic with all members of the 'armed
forces, and will take a leading role in assuring the wounded and disabled
heroes all proper medical care, rehabilitation, and financial aid to the needy,
as well as their dependents.
3. Olin D. Johnston will forcefully support the war policy of our Com
mander-In-Chief, and our selected military leaders in their well-thought-out
plans to bring about the earliest possible complete victory over our foes. He
will take an active and leadirlg role in helping to formulate and write a last
ing peace.
4. Olin D. Johnston is anxious that America and the world have the right
kind of peace after the war has been won by the United Nations. Olin D.
Johnston believes we should have and maintain the most powerful national
defense forces on earth after this war so that all nations will respect ouc
power. He will use his energies as your senator to see that this nation is never
caught unprepared again as it was at the start of the present war. Olin D.
Johnston is a man of his word. He is a young, strong, and able statesman.

S. W. SHEALY
Supervisor
There are only two issues connected with this office,
that of the work in the office itself, and the work over the
county as a whole.
First, if elected I promise that the funds will be care
fully spent and a qualified claim recorded showing where
every dollar has been spent. Second, I promise that every
section of the county will receive its fair share.
Not every one of us is fortunate to live on a highway or
in town, but I feel that every citizen regardless of where
he lives is entitled to a good road to his home.
If honored with the position I will devote my entire
time during the next four years to looking after your in
terests in the supervisor’s office. I will personally see that
the work is carried on fairly and squarely.
I will cooperate in every way with your commissioners
and delegation.
My business experience for the past twenty-five years
will enable me to serve you efficiently in this capacity.
During these 4 years I will see that as many of your
slick red roads will he topsoiled as is possible during thq
summer months, so that you may travel them more satis
factorily when the winter rains come.
We're proud of our towns in our county. We’re proud
of our large cotton mills. We're proud of our school sys
tems and our churches. And anything 1 can do to be of
service to them I will always do my part.
