•»mO£ EIGHT US NEWBERRY SUN FRIDAY, JUNE 23, IfrU BRIDE-ELECT ENTERTAINED Mi^s Louise Bayley Purcell, whose marriage to Lieut Richard James Vance is an interesting social event of the month, has been the inspiration for a number of delightful attentions since the announcement of her en gagement. One of the most delightful was the buffet supper given by the Aubrey Harleys and Mrs. R. T. Albrecht at their home on Johnstone street when thirty-five guests were invited. Included in the guest list were the following out-of-town guests: the bridegroom Lieut. Vance, Lieut. Wil- more, Flight Officer Fred Price, and Mrs. Price, all from the Columbia Air Base; Lieut. Frank M. Baker, McDill Field, Tampa, Fla.; Pvt. Joe Ktapalka, Fort Jackson; Lieut. Sam King, Cherry Point, N. C.; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Barron a nd Mr. and Mrs. Walter Regney of Goldville; Lieut. Albert G. MeCaughrin, Camp Bland- ing, Fla.; Mrs. Edward Gayle, Char leston, and Miss Martie Harley of Columbia. Mrs. Jack Blease Workman gave a dinner party for the bride-elect on Saturday evening when covers were laid for eight guests including the bride’s attendants and her mother, Mrs. C. J. Purcell and her sister, Mrs. T. F. Coley. The table was centered with a crystal bowl of mixed garden flowers and a three course diner was served. The hostess presented the honor guest with a piece of linen. Mrs. T. E. Davis and Mrs. T. F. Cooley, sisters of the bride-elect en tertained the members of the bridal party and out-of-town guests with a buffet supper after the rehearsal Monday evening. The dining table was centered with a three-tiered embossed wedding cake, and lighted with candles in silver holders and held decorations of pink glads. After supper the cake was cut for the lucky emblems and was served with punch. MISS PURCELL MARRIES LIEUTENANT VANCE A beautiful wedding which center ed the social life of this season was solemnized Tuesday, June 20th at ! 8:30 o’clock in the evening when Louise Bayley Purcell, became the bride of Richard James Vance, Lieu tenant United States Army Air i Corps, of Pasadena, California, and | Columbia Army Air Base. The marriage took place in the First Baptist church in the presence of large assembly of relatives -and friends with the pastor, the Rev. J. Aubrey Estes reading the ceremony, ] and the Rev. C. A. Calcote of Ave- I leigh Presbyterian church assisting. 'The double ring ritual was used. The church was decorated for the | occasion in bridal white and green 'with magnolia, grandiflora, with their glossy leaves and palms creat- i ing an effective alter background, ' and with tall baskets of white snap- 1 dragons and glads used on the sides. Seven branched candlelabra held I white candles and they were also used ; around the choir loft rail. Mrs. D. R., Miller, of Newberry College music faculty, gave a pro gram of organ music before the cere mony a nd during the taking of the vows. The traditional wedding marches were used. The maid of honor was Miss Bebe Purcell, young niece of the bride; and the bride’s maids were, Misses Mary Ann Davis and Anna Hart, both of Newbery. They all wore lovely colonial period net dress fashioned with deep-shoulders outlined with a fluffy puffing, with tight fitted bod ices and bouffant skirts. The maid of honor wore pink and the bride’s maids, blue, and all carried quaint nosegays of mixed flowers. The youthful bride’s brunet beauty was enhanced by her gown of ivory white satin fashioned with sweet heart neckline embroidered in seed pearls and from the fitted bodice the court train fell. Her full length veil of bridal illusion was held by a cor net of seed pearls in Queen Anne style, and she carried a white prayer book surmounted by a white purple throated orchid with ribbon stream ers. She was attended by her eldest brother Edward B. Purcell by whom she was given in marriage. The bride-groom had for his best man Lieut. Fred Price a nd the usher groomsmen were: Lieut. George Mat thews, Lieut Joseph Lucas. Lieut. Paul Merron, all of the Columbia Army Air Base, and R. Aubrey Har ley of Newberry. Mrs. Vance is the youngest daugh- , ter of Mrs. Charles Joseph Purcell .(Daisy McFall of Newberry) and the j late Col. Purcell of Augusta, Geor- |gia and Newberry. She is a 1943 . graduate of the Newberry schools ■ and the Newberry business school, and held a secretarial position with Pan-American Airways at Miami, Florida, and was with the local Se lective Service Board just prior to her marriage. Lieutenant Vance, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Vance of Pasa dena, California, received his educa tion at Pasadena University, where he was a student when he entered the service. He is leader of his squadron at the Columbia Air Base where he has been stationed some time. After the ceremony the bridal cou ple with Mrs. C. J. Purcell and E. B. Purcell greeted their friends in the vestibule of the church. Mrs. Purcell wore a gown of powder blue chiffon with white accessories and a corsage of pink rosebuds centered with a pur ple orchid. The young couple left during the evening for a short wedding trip af ter which they will be at home in Columbia. The bride wore for trav eling a chic two-piece, in R.A.F. blue crepe with black and white accessor ies and an orchid corsage. Out-of-town guests attending the wedding were: Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Ooolev ond Thomas Cooley, Jr., and Mrs. D. G. Smith of Elkin, N. C.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Price of Columbia: Mr. and Mrs. Allen Barron of Gold ville; Misses Meme and Joan Barron of Fort Lawn and Goldville. Every person who wishes to vote in the Democratic Primary on July 25, and otherwise eligible to do so, must enroll on the book in the precinct in which the voter lives on or before June 2 7. Those who will become twenty-one years of age 'before Nov. 7 may so enroll and vote. Those who vote in said Primary will not be bound by oath or otherwise to vote for or against any nominee or nominees of the National Democratic Party. Tliey may vote any national ticket they choose. Tax receipts and registration, certificates are not necessary for enrolling or for voting in the Primary. In order to vote in the Primary it is neces sary that you put your name on the roll on or before June 27. June 28 will be too late. This early closing of the enrollment books in 1944 is necessary to enable those in uniform to get their ballots and vote by mail. It is not asking too much of you to make it convenient to enroll on or before June 27 so that you yourself may be qualified to vote, and that those in uniform may have ample time also to vote.
